Runaway Relena

Chapter One

Relena's decision to run was well thought out, she didn't however plan on that fact that a bomb planted in the shuttle she was suppose to be in would make everyone think she was truly dead. Heero wouldn't though...the note she had left him would be proof of that.

But now, with the fire went everything she had worked so hard to achieve over the past 3 months of her absence. Money, ID, clothes, computer, everything...gone. She walked around the streets aimlessly, she was getting tired and knew that she would have to find somewhere to rest soon.

She leaned up against a building and sank to her knees. She didn't even register that a woman had knelt beside her until she felt a hand on her arm. Jumping at the contact she stared into the most familiar looking pair of cobalt eyes she had ever seen. "Are you OK?" the woman asked quietly.

Relena took her time in answering, studying the face in front of her, subtle things in the face and bone structure made her feel like this woman was related to Heero. Her hair was raven black and cut short like a male. She was dressed in all black, jeans, T-shirt, leather jacket and boots. She smiled at Relena but the smile didn't reach her eyes, which remained cold and expressionless. "Come." The woman said to Relena as she helped her to her feet. "I can at least give you some food. You look like you've been through hell. By the way, my name is Kali, Kali Ashana."

Relena smiled weakly at her and replied, "Call me Katrina, and thank you." Relena's comment was waved away as the two girls walked down the street. For the first time since running away, she didn't feel the need to look over she shoulder for anyone that might remember her. Relena dyed her hair brown and wore brown contacts. But she was still paranoid at times that she would be discovered and that she would be forced to go back to her old life. To the responsibility and constant pressure she had always been under. She knew deep inside that her brother never really meant to make her feel that way but she did. After his disappearance she still spoke to him. Every time he called the conversation always turned to the restoration of the Sanq Kingdom. And what she should do. That and the pressure of her position as Vice-Foreign Minster became too much. So she came to the decision to leave. Not forever, just a vacation of sorts. To bad it sort of became a permanent one.

Two months passed quickly with Kali. She was a nice enough woman, but Relena always had the feeling that there was something there that didn’t seem right. It only took two weeks before Relena admitted who she was. Kali vowed not to tell a soul. And despite Kali’s standoff-ish manor and dangerous looks they became close friends.

Relena returned from shopping to find that Kali had come home early. She had a worried look in her eyes. Not bothering to beat around the bush she got straight to the point. “I think we’ve been found Kat.” Since Relena introduced herself as Katrina Kali nicknamed her Kat, and refused to call her anything else. Katrina’s eyes widened in disappointment, “We only just got here, K-chan!” Katrina felt the need to give Kali a nickname after a few days and knowing the girl’s Japanese origins called her K-chan. The duo had arrived on L5 intent on staying as long as Kali felt it was safe. This was their shortest stay yet, only a week had passed since the girl’s arrival.

“I know Kat. But I have a contact that is on Earth right now. I think he can help us go somewhere where we won’t be found.” Katrina said nothing and let her actions speak for her as she set about packing a bag for the trip. Katrina’s thoughts turned towards Earth, she hadn’t been considering the fact that she might have to return there. She didn’t know what she would do if she ever came upon a person from her past. She pushed thoughts of Heero from her mind, ‘Don’t think about him any more Relena. You are dead to him, remember?’

The five ex-Gundam Pilots were at a mansion of Quatre’s. Quatre started the once a year reunions and even Wufei admitted he liked seeing his old comrades in arms. It was near 10 o’clock and everyone but Heero and Quatre had gone to bed. Heero was as always typing away on his laptop. Quatre came up behind him. “What are you doing, Heero?”

Heero grunted and after several moments of silence replied, “Checking up on Zechs and Noin. Looks like they will have a son soon.”

Quatre choked and stared at the back of Heero’s head, “There still alive?”

“Living on Mars, have been ever since Mariemaia’s attempted coup.” Heero shut off his laptop and bid Quatre goodnight. The Sandrock pilot shook his white/blonde head and followed Heero’s example. Trowa and Wufei shared a room, Heero and Duo shared another.

(AN: Yes, I know that it is a mansion and they should have there own rooms but you will find out later why I did that. And this is non-yaoi. So don’t get any ideas.)

The girl’s arrival on Earth was slow and tiring. Katrina feel asleep almost before her head hit her pillow on the hotel room bed. Kali made sure she was asleep before hacking into the hotel’s VID phone system. She used a code her ‘contact’ had given her and was soon greeted with a very grumpy looking Duo Maxwell.

Duo heard the VID phone buzzing and dragged himself out of bed. He mumbled incoherent things about certain fools who should know not to disturb Shingami when he was sleeping. After hitting the answer button he yawned and yelled half-heartily, “It’s 4am in the morning so I suggest that you have a good reason for interrupting my sleep!”

Kali watched the man whom her contact often called Braided-Baka in his e-mails with amusement. After seeing the rather attractive woman on the screen he tried to act cool. Before he could speak Duo felt a presence behind him and whirled to face Heero.

“Move.” Was all the stone-faced pilot said. Duo did as he was told but hovered in the background, wanting to hear the conversation. When Heero did nothing to change this Kali raised her eyebrow.

“It’s Okay. He’ll keep his mouth shut.”

Kali nodded and then spoke in a voice that except for being a couple octaves higher than Heero’s was identical. “We are on Earth, when can we meet up?”

“Tomorrow night if you want. I can bring you here and you two can stay here at Quatre’s until a suitable safe house is found.”

Kali nodded, “Fine with me. Will your friends be alright with it?”

Heero nodded, “When I explain that you are my sister it shouldn’t be too hard.”

Duo, who had this far remained silent leaped at the screen. “SISTER!!! THE PERFECT SOLDIER HAS A SISTER!?” The combined glares of Heero and Kali got him to quiet down.

“Yes, Duo. I am Heero’s sister. We will meet properly tomorrow but my name is Kali.”

Duo smiled, “You know who I am?”

“Yes, my brother mentions you in his e-mails. Braided-Baka is the most commonly used term.” Heero smirked at the offended boy’s glare.

“How is she?” Heero asked suddenly. His unreadable mask back up.

Kali turned slightly and looked behind her, “Sleeping at the moment. The trip her took quite a bit out of her. And don’t worry, I only taught her to defend herself and how to shoot a gun. She took to it quite well considering her past.” Heero nodded, Duo was completely confused. “Meet tomorrow at the aforementioned place at 7pm. I will pick you up there.”

Kali nodded and disconnected.

Heero turned around and was met with a questioning look from Duo. Heero shook his head and to Duo’s amazement, smiled. “You will find out tomorrow with everybody else Duo. And I suggest you keep your mouth shut about my sister.”

Kali went to bed after disconnecting with Heero. Tomorrow was going to be interesting...
