Into the Abyss: M.I.A.
Chapter 4
AN: For simplicities sake, and my own laziness I will be calling Shal-lania, Lania. It’s her
nickname. A lot happens in this part, sorry for any confusion. I am also considering
putting in some TAFF. I don’t know though, I have never been the best at writing stuff
like that. It always turns out sounding corny.
Jared was the first to reach Kali after her collapse. Lania knelt down and started to heal
her but had to stop half-way through. “What’s the matter?” Dyro asked.
The shaking Lania looked confused, “I don’t know. I have used my powers on Kali
before, but it was never that hard.”
Kali moaned softly and sat up slowly, wincing as her partial healed wound screamed in
protest at the movement.
Melian was the only one who saw the flash of concern that crossed her brother’s features, or so she thought. “Kali?” she asked quietly.
Kali glared at MIA’s sphere, “Apparently MIA forgot to mention the fact that we are SO
closely bonded that her injuries become mine.”
Kali turned a proud gaze on Lania, “That’s why it was so hard to heal me. You were
healing the ship as well, and I must say doing a rather good job of it too. It won’t take
nearly as long for the repairs as it normally would have.”
Lania just smiled weakly at Kali. She was pleased with the praise but, to weak to do
anything more than that.
Jared looked thoughtful, “Then I suppose we had best figure out just what this ship can do to protect itself. Before we are in a fight that we cannot win, or outrun.” Kali agreed
readily.
Lania and Melian were taking one of there walked several weeks later when Melian asked
about her necklace. (AN: In case I forgot to mention, Melian and Shal-lania are
becoming really close friends)
So, Lania told Melian everything that had happened after they obtained MIA.
*See Chapter 1*
Melian was deep in thought when Lania finished, “So, Kali can use Magick?” she asked.
Lania nodded, “Yep, although I have never seen her do so as of yet.” Lania found that
she was talking to an empty hallway. Melian had already turned the corner ahead of her.
Melian burst into the room where Kali and Jared where going over MIA’s fight
capabilities. Dyro was trying to help, but he was completely confused.
“You can do it!” Melian cried out, staring at Kali.
Kali just stared at her, completely at a loss.
“You can use your Magick to restore my memories!”
Jared and Dyro both looked at Kali, eyes wide.
Lania overheard what Melian said as she came in, “I wonder why I never thought of that?”
Kali, caught between a rock and a hard place nodded slowly in the affirmative, “There are
spells that can restore memory.” Melian looked pleased.
“But, Melian. Most of the technique’s are painful, for both castor and receiver. For they
both must relieve those lost memories. And such spells require incredible control.”
Melian shrugged, “So? I don’t care what I have to do. I just want my memories back.”
Kali spoke soothingly, as one would to a child, “ I have also never done one before. I
don’t know if I have enough control over my Magick.”
Melian snapped at Kali impatiently, “ I DON’T care! I just want my memories back!”
Kali sighed, “I don’t think you quite understand, if I were to lose control while I was
casting the spell the ‘backdraft’ it would cause would kill both of us.” Melian was silent
as she took this information in.
Lania stuttered, “W-What? Then you can’t. It’s far to dangerous.”
Melian looked devastated, “All I want are my memories.”
Kali looked like she was having some sort of inner struggle. “Oh, Hell with it.” Everyone
looked up at her. “I will mediate for three hours prior. Meet me in the Training room
after that time. It’s as good a place as any.” Melian nodded excitedly. Kali left the room
with a serious look on her face, muttering, “I must be out of my mind...”
Three hours couldn’t have gone any slower. Everyone met in the Training room and after
a few moments of discussion Kali and Melian went to the center of a sparing square.
Jared, Lania and Dyro stayed by the door.
“Face me Melian.” Kali commanded. Melian did as she was told. Kali placed her hands
on Melian’s shoulder’s. “Look me in the eyes. Do not look away, no matter what. Clear,
your mind of all thought but that of your need to regain your memories. This is likely
going to be a bitch for both of us. DO NOT break your concentration or were both dead.
Understand?” Melian nodded, to nervous to talk. Kali gave her a soft smile, surprising
the younger girl. “Relax, just follow my instructions and we’ll be fine.”
Kali’s silver eyes started to glow slightly. A strange aura came into being around the girls.
Sliver around Kali then it flowed easily into red around Melian. They stayed that way for
a good two hours before the cloud lifted and slowly disappeared. Kali took her hands
away and both girls looked tired. Safe, but very tired. Without any words the girls were
taken to the Infirmary so they could rest.
AN: I was going to leave it here, but I am in a good mood. So I shall continue.
Kali and Melian slept almost 48 hours. Kali just blinked after she sat up. She had seen
everything that Melian had been through and was trying to cope with it. Melian however
burst into tears.
Lania hugged her friend and sung to her in her native tongue. Melian soon calmed down,
breathing in time with the hypnotic chant. Jared look confusedly at his sister.
Kali explained, “Melian has her memories back. But they are harsher than we imagined.
It’s best you don’t ask her about them until she is ready.”
Jared looked angry, “What happened to her?”
Kali shook her head, “It’s not my place to say.” Jared was about to argue when a loud
alarm sounded throughout the ship.
MIA’s sphere entered the room. “Kali. Hunter ships have been detected 4 kilometers and
closing fast.”
Everyone moved to go up to the deck but when Melian shifted to get off the bed Kali
halted, “Oh no. I don’t think so. Your staying right here.”
Melian pouted, “What? Why?”
Kali shook her head instead of answering, “Lania, stay with her.”
Melian fumed, “Kali! Why can’t I help?”
Kali whirled around, “Because the spell I cast made us, for a moment, one being. I saw
into your memories and I saw into you.”
Melian paled, she knew where this was going.
“I know your pregnant.”
