Into the Abyss: M.I.A.

Chapter 12

Well, it seems those few who read this want the time jump. I’m hoping nobody gets confused but I just couldn’t find a way to carry it on with the twins that young...SO...Katina and Eryk are now 6 years old. Ayana is thirteen. This time jump is about five years.

‘...’ denotes thought

I MAY, at a later date, post my other idea for this. Just as a ‘what if’ sort of thing.

Without further ado...

‘Not much has changed in five years.’ Lania thought to herself as she entered the Training room.

They were still searching for Cantry’s ship. They had spotted the ship a few times but had never been in a position to attack.

At the moment Kali was on the main deck, scanning M.I.A for any problems.

Dyro was taking inventory in the Supply rooms’.

Jared and Melian were in the Training room with Ayana, Eryk and Katina. Teaching the three how to fight. Ayana became sort of an older sister to the twins. Although she clearly idolized Kali. The girl started trying to walk like the older woman and tried to keep her face in an emotionless mask like the one Kali tended to put up. She had even taking to reading everything M.I.A. had on Priestesses.

Eryk and Katina’s telekinesis had grown in strength, they could now easily lift 4 Touls together without trouble (1 Toul is about 1000 pounds). Their tails had also changed. Now, Eryk tail had taken on a blue tint. While Katina’s was red. Despite there young age both were extremely intelligent. Katina had not yet lost her childish lisp and listening to her speak was strange. Such adult words coming from a six year old. Despite the fact that Katina was born first Eryk was clearly the ‘leader’ of the pair.

Lania sighed as she watched the twins pin Ayana to the ground. Ayana gave a grunt of defeat to signal the twins victory. The twins walked over and were greeted by the Healer.

Over the past five years they had come to rely on Lania for answers to there many questions about themselves. Although Lania didn't always have the answers for them, she was always looking. She did mange to figure out that the tails the twins had gave them the power of telekinesis. Jokingly she had offered to surgically remove the tails for the twins. And both of them actually considered it. In the end they choose to keep there tails and had gained the colours at age three. Lania had been trying to find the reason for this change without much success.

"Did you find anything, Lania?" Eryk asked. Speaking for both him and his sister, as he tended to do when they were together (which was almost always). Lania shook her head, "Nothing as of yet. I'm still running tests." Katina patted Lania's hand reassuringly. Eryk spoke, "Don't worry yourself to death about it Lania-mama. We are sure that you will be able to figure it out. And it's not like the colour on our tails is doing anything to us. So far, anyway."

Lania smiled. Over the past five years everyone had gotten used to the strange partnership the twins seemed to possess. The twins had also started the nicknames almost as soon as they were able to talk. Kali became Kali-mama, and Dyro and Jared were called uncle.

A beeping sound came from the communicator on Melian's shirt. Melian had created them and MIA had helped her build them. They were mini-communicators that looked like a pin. Everyone, including the twins had received one.

"What is it, Kali?" Melian asked. After touching the communicator.

"You had best come up to the main deck. Your going to want to see what MIA's long range scanner's just picked up." Kali’s voice came from the small pin.

Melian’s heart skipped a beat, "Is it Cantry?"

"No, I'm afraid not. But it's something we've been on the look for anyway."

Everyone went up to the main deck, Dyro was already there. “So what’s up?” Ayana asked.

Kali smiled and looked at the screen. On it was what looked like a outpost of some kind. “MIA has told me that this is just like an outpost in Known Space. We should be able to get our supplies restocked and maybe we can ask around about the Finana.” (The Finana is the name of the ship Cantry is on. The last time MIA had spotted the ship that name was visible from the side.)

It took 4 hours to get to the outpost. They were hailed and cleared for dock. After doing so Jared, Dyro and Kali went to go get supplies. Melian, Lania and the children stayed on ship. After giving they’re supply list to a merchant the trio walked to a nearby bar to wait.

During the entire things, Kali was giving strange looks and wide berths. They just assumed it was because of her colouring (Remember she has sliver hair and eyes). Sitting at a table in the dim room Dyro ordered a beer like drink. Kali and Jared did not get anything. They were talking quietly about Ayana and the twins progress in fighting when a group of three hooded females came up to them.

One of them spoke, her voice was deep and masculine. “Who are you?” Kali stood up, they’re garb was that of Priestesses or at least was a deviation of it. So Kali spoke accordingly, as one of her rank would.

“I am Reverend Priestess Kali. Who asks?”

All three stepped back slightly at the command in her voice. Kali’s circlet was clearly visible on her neck. One look and they knew it was not a fake. The one who had spoken pulled her hood back and bowed, her hands crossed over her chest, one hand open the other held in a fist. One foot in front of the other. As one Priestess to another.

“Excuse us Priestess Kali. We thought someone was trying to fake themselves as a Priestess. I am Priestess Ondrea. If I may ask, who appointed you? I do not know of you.”

Kali smiled slightly, “High Priestess Kikyou. You will not know her. She does not live in the Aibtian Territories.”

Ondrea’s eyes widened. “OH! You are from beyond the A.T.? Then you must come with us and meet our High Priestess! She has always wished to learn how things are done with the original branch of the Priestess Order.”

Kali looked to Dyro and Jared. Neither of them voiced a problem with it. “That would be fine Ondrea. We will follow you in our ship. The rest of the crew are still on board.”

Kali didn’t use the title Priestess because she ranked higher. Ondrea nodded and bowed again. “We will meet just outside the Outposts barrier, on the north side.”

Kali bowed back, as etiquette required and the Priestesses left. Jared and Dyro went to pick up the supplies. Kali went straight back to MIA and filled the rest in on what happened.

“So, were going to meet the High Priestess of the A.T. Priestesses?” Lania said.

Kali nodded. Ayana was ecstatic, “I’m going to meet REAL Priestesses! Other than Kali of course.” She added as an afterthought.

When Dyro and Jared arrived everyone helped move the supplies into the larder. They then left the outpost and met up with the Priestess ship. After a short conversation they started the 28 hour trip to the main ship of the Priestesses. They didn’t have a planet, but a mobile version of one. The main ship was called Zion.
