Family Trip to Worlds of FunIn celebration of Rebekah's birthday (which conveniently coincided with Barton's company picnic), we went to Worlds of Fun on September 15. It was our first trip as a whole family. The last time we went was in the summer of 2000, when I was pregnant with Rebekah. As I recall, that trip was crowded and hot and miserable. This time, the day was cool, the park was not crowded, and we had loads of fun.

Papa and Rebekah at the Auto Blaster
The highlight of the day was clearly the Peanuts Playhouse. I nearly avoided it because it really just looked (from the outside) like it was a big play structure similar to McDonald's playplaces. It was this great big "house" but the walls were kind of like a screen, just enough to keep balls in and bugs out. It was absolute chaos. You walk in and there are hundreds and hundreds of these little foam balls everywhere. They are soft and lightweight so it would be almost impossible to be hurt by one, even if it hit you in the face. |
Jarom Blasting
All around, there are children and adults running EVERYwhere picking up balls, throwing balls, shooting them out of cannons, vaccuming them up and sending them into these humongous baskets hanging from the ceiling that eventually tip over and dump the whole load of balls on everyone. It was unbelievable. There were kids and balls and bags of balls all over the place. There were stairs around the outside walls to go up to a second level (that was just around the edges) to shoot balls from different types of cannons and blasters. We were there for a couple of hours, at least. |
Ainsley and Holly
I eventually convinced them all to leave the playhouse and ride a few more rides. The kids rode a ride called (Woodstock's Airmail) that is a mini version of one of the scary rides. The kids sat in a bench and then it goes way up and then bounces them up and down a few times. Rebekah opted out. Holly and Jarom rode it and didn't like it. Ainsley loved it and rode it four times. In this picture, Ainsley and Holly are sitting in the middle. We got to WOF just after noon and stayed until the park closed at 10pm. The only real crankiness we had was on the way out (which was understandable since they were exhausted and hungry by then). Rebekah pronounced it the best birthday ever, the best day ever, and the most fun she has ever had. |
