About Magic:
In the wizarding world, magic is a way of accomplishing things that are impossible by the natural laws that bind the rest of us. Wizards can use floo poder to get from one place to another, while non-magical folk are forced to walk or take the bus. Albus Dumbledore can point his magic wand and utter a few magic words to fill the Hogwarts hall with with sleeping bags, while an ordinary person would have to drive to a store, buy the sleeping bags, load them in a van, drive them back to the school, and carry them inside. Sirius Black can use magic to turn himself into a dog, wile a non-wizard can do nothing more than put on a costume.
The History of Hogwarts:
Hogwarts ws founded over a thousand years ago - the presice date is uncertain - by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. The four school houses are named after them: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by common people, and witches and wizards suffered much persecution.
