As a young girl, her village was slaughtered and destroyed by unknown attackers. She fled only to come in contact with a mysterious woman named Nine. The woman took Mariana in where she lived as a servant, learning the ways of sword and magic. To return the favor Mariana pledged her loyalty to Nine, serving her as needed whether in combat or taking care of house and chores. One day, however, Nine mysteriously disappeared. As time went on in her search, Mariana could find no trace of her. She now wanders around as a mercenary for hire, performing tasks for people as long as the pay is reasonable. Through this she hopes to find any information on the woman who saved her as a child, willing to serve her again.
