SOUTH STOCKTON NEWS
THE FACTS ABOUT SOUTH STOCKTON
- INTRODUCTION****BY RAY GOMEZ**********Well here it is, something I have been trying to do for years. I could never raise the money to actually start a newspaper to compete with the Record here in town, but I did come up with the resources to get a website started, a website dedicated to events and occasions that happen in South Stockton. I will take all input from anyone who wishes to contribute, as long as it is done in a decent and respectful manner. So if you have something to contribute, send an email to the address below.
- GROWTH IN STOCKTON IS JUST PASSING US BY***********BY RAY GOMEZ*******Stockton is growing, but most of the growth is out north, I am not talking about residential growth, because we have our share of new homes here in south Stockton, with Weston Ranch, The new homes on Eighth street, and the new homes near the airport in the Little John creek area. Where South Stockton really lacks growth is in the commericial area, sure we have a new Mexican superstore on Charter and Airport way, but that is the last thing we need in South Stockton, we have plenty of Carnicerias, Taquerias and Mexican restaurants on charter way, that store should have been placed in Spanos park and we should have gotten a Target or Knols. I am not saying that the new Mexican supermarket isn't a good thing, but I have a feeling it might take business away from the small businesses that have been in the area for years. I would be nice not to have to drive ten miles to shop at Sears, Penny's, Macy's, etc. Stockton is probably the only city in the world that has two malls that are right next to each other, why is that, someone must know. Weston Ranch is growing so fast, as far as homes being built, but all they have commericially is a Food 4 Less, and a small shopping center. It is time for more big box stores to be built, but right here in south Stockton, it seems like new businesses would rather take a chance at building right across the street from a competitor, than take a chance at getting the whole enchilada in south Stockton. Lowes built their new store right across from home depot, and Wal mart is adding a new store right across the street from their old one. I have heard that the mayor and council have plans for south Stockton after the downtown area is finished, but I don't see any reason why we can't grow commercially also as downtown grows.
This website is dedicated to happenings in South Stockton, if you live in south Stockton, send me an email if you have an event or special occasion coming up. I will post your event as soon as I get it. I will be upgrading this site slowly as I learn how to do it, so bare with me. It should be a real nice place to visit once I am done.
