Isaac, Henderson, and Kate
The document to which this page is linked casts doubt on the traditional family story that Isaac Vandergriff was the illegitimate son of Kate, and Henderson's grandson, and that Kate was Henderson's daughter. Rather, Kate was probably Henderson's second wife and was Kate Wilson until she married Henderson. That would make Isaac Henderson's stepson, though there is some suggestion that he was Henderson's son out of wedlock. An entry is the Osage County, Missouri record of marriages in 1848 lists Henderson Bandergrish [sic] and Catherine Wilson's marriage on July 3, 1848. It seems unlikely that there was both a Henderson Vandergriff and a Henderson Bandergrish living in Osage County, MO, at that particular time. Isaac would have been about 3 years old then.
