MISTAKES

If you know of any other mistakes that I have missed, then please send them in.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

  • We know that Harry's birthday is on July 31. The next school year is Nearly Headless Nick's Death Day and it is in 1992. Therefore, we know that Harry's 11th Birthday was 07/31/1991. In The Sorcerer's Stone, Harry says his birthday is on a Tuesday, the day after Dudley's favorite TV show (The Great Humberto). But 7/31 really fell on a Wednesday that year!
  • Harry buys the book "One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi", but later in the book it says Harry looked up 'dittany' in "One Hundred Magical Herbs and Fungi."
  • At the end of the sorting ceremony, it says that Harry looked up at the Sorting Stool, there were only 3 people left to be sorted. But there were 2 people's names called, then Ron's, and then one more person, which makes a total of four.
  • In book one the sorting hat was brought out on a four-legged stool, but in book four it was on a three-legged stool.
  • In the letter accepting Harry to Hogwarts, students are allowed to bring an owl OR a cat OR a toad. Sounds like they have pretty strict rules regarding pets but then Ron is allowed to bring his rat!
  • When they are trying to get to the Sorcerer's Stone, they play a game of chess. Ron is a knight. But at the end of the game, it says he takes one step forward. Knights can't move only one step forward.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

  • Dumbledore says that Lord Voldemort is the last remaining ancester of Salizar Slytherin. But, it should say descendent.
  • Tom Riddle told Harry that they were similar because they were both half-bloods. But Harry was not a half-blood. Both his parents were a witch or wizard, making him a full blood.
  • On page 157 Harry and Ron exit out of Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, but are caught by Percy. The book says, "Get—away—from—there," said Perry instead of Percy.
  • At Nick's Death Day party, Peeves pelted Moaning Myrtle with peanuts. OK that's something normal...until you remember that Myrtle is a ghost! The peanuts would go right through her!
  • Colin wasn't killed because he saw the Basilisk through the glass lense of his camera. So, wouldn't Moaning Myrtle only have been petrified since she wears glasses? (2 possible reasons- 1) She took her glasses off to cry 2) Many glasses these days are made out of plastic not glass)
  • Nearly Headless Nice says that he hasn't eaten in nearly 400 years in the first book... but... he has his 500th Death Day party in book 2.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

  • At the beginning of the book on the Knight Bus, the price was 14 sickles. Sickles are silver, but when Harry payed, it said he shoved some gold into Stan's hand.
  • In the Quidditch final, Madam Hooch yelled at Montague. It then says "A minute later Katie had put another penalty past the Slytherin Seeker. It should read Keeper.
  • In book one it says Marcus Flint is a sixth year. But he's still alive and kicking at Hogwarts in book 3. When asked about this, JK Rowling said he had to do a year over :). Highly believable excuse.
  • Dumbledore tells Harry that he gave evidence at Black's trial. But, in book 4, Black tells Harry that he never had a trial.
  • On page 285 Snape's name is misspelled.
  • Also, on page 428, Dumbledore's name is misspelled.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

  • When Hermione stopped taking Muggle Studies, it said she had the same amount of subjects as Harry and Ron, but she still had Ancient Runes making her have 1 more subject.
  • In book 2 Moaning Myrtle haunts the U-bend of the toilet. But in the fourth book it says she haunts the S-bend.
  • At the end of book 4, when Priori Incantatem is taking place, James comes out before Lily. Since Priori Incantatem does spells in reverse order, this would mean that James was killed after Lily. In every other book, though, it always talks about how he was killed before her. This sparked all kinds of rumors of how he was killed after her and many other things.... however... this was fixed in later versions of the book. So no, there is no big conspiracy.
  • When Harry sneaks up to Dumbledore's office, he hears people talking about Crouch. Crouch, however, was not in the room. But, the book says "said Crouch angrily."
