Snowed In: A Christmos Album

No, don’t adjust your computer screens, and no that’s not a typo. According to Isaac Taylor and Zac Hanson the word Christmas has now been changed to Christmos. Damn southern accents.

Well, it happens every year around Thanksgiving time. We all decide to pull out our favorite Christmas album. This year I got the joys of riding in a car for a 14-hour trip each way to New York. Instead of listening to my mom freak out about the road conditions I put on my headphones, pulled out my notebook, and wrote. And what do you know, I came up with a review of Snowed In for you all to enjoy.

Merry Christmas Baby: Weren’t we all just amazed the first time we heard that first “Yeah” escape our little Taylor’s mouth. Suddenly he’s a man, and we like it! It’s a great opening song because it totally puts us in a Christmas jamming mood. We are definitely in ‘paradise’ … except for in July when those really high background ‘Da da da’s’ get stuck in out heads for no apparent reason. What is it critics’ say about their music being catchy?

What Christmas Means To Me: Aww, remember when Zac sounded like that? How adorable can a guy get? So lots of snow and ice means Christmas to him? Well, wait until he experiences a Michigan winter. Snow and ice will also mean Taylor’s birthday in March to him. Also mistletoe means Christmas to him. Did anyone know that that is the Oklahoma State flower? Interesting eh? On a more serious note I just love when they all trade off vocals on the bridge. That just sounds too cool.

Little St. Nick: From what I gather this is a song about a sled named after its driver, Little St. Nick or Santa…sweeeeeeet. The guitar riffs in this song absolutely rock. And don’t we all love the little ‘Wha wha wha” part towards the end? They really should cover more Beach Boy’s songs so we can hear that more often. And in case you didn’t know, Christmas comes this time each year…as opposed to every other year?

At Christmas: Now this is a beautiful song. I absolutely love the piano accompaniment to this song. (Hmm, go figure.) I wish I could get the sheet music so I could play it myself. And forget about Christmos, this song is practically At Christmouse. Especially towards the end, right before the line “Can’t you feel the changing.” This is what Christmas means to me. Jumping on the chair wondering where that Christ-mouse is.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home): Now I’ve heard many versions of this song (I’m especially thinking of the U2 version” and this one is simply the best. Why is that you may ask? Well, simply because none of the others have Zac in the background singing ‘Christmas’ over and over again. Now, according to Taylor the church bells in town are all singing our song. First off, I didn’t realize that Taylor and I had a song. That is so sweet! But I also didn’t know that church bells could sing. Well, you learn something new everyday. In summery, baby I’ll come home to you any day!

Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree: Another masterpiece by Zac. But really, we know he did it on purpose. We know he wanted us to think we were eating fuckin’ pie and telling the sex boy to ‘come on’. Yeah, we’re getting that sentimental feeling Zac. Loud and clear.

Christmas Time: This is truly my favorite song on the whole album. Who else could write such an amazing song with such insightful lyrics? It’s so wonderful; I can’t find anything funny to say about it. Kudos to Hanson!

Everybody Knows The Claus: Um…laugh much? This is another feel good, have fun song much like Man From Milwaukee. Of course Taylor goes a little overboard with the “oh’s” and “ugh’s” in the beginning. Are we surprised about that? What’s that you say? No? Ding ding, you guessed correctly. But come on people, isn’t there that classic Taylor, totally sexy quality in his voice when he sings the line “You’ve never seen this side of him before.” But we must ask, why this line? Strange character he is.

Run Run Rudolf: Now this is a true rock song. And doesn’t Ike just remind you of a seasoned rock star with all the ‘kickin’ it’ talk? I must admit my favorite part is at the very end when Ike goes “Here it come, kick it” and there’s that last drum beat. That part just rocks. Now this song says that Rudolf whizzes like a merry-go-round, and a shooting star, and all this other stuff. Now there’s something I’d like to see. No wait, I talk that back, I don’t want to see that.

O Holy Night Medley: One word…amazing! Okay, you want more? Wonderful, excellent, beautiful, breathtaking. Need any more? It helps that O Holy Night is my absolute favorite carol. But this arrangement with the other two songs is so great. It’s three songs for the price of one.

White Christmas: Holy harmonies Batman! Now this is a song that really shoes off their vocal abilities. Those show offs, singing a song with such tight harmonies a cappella. How do they do it?!
