Lex's Complete This Time Around Review!
You Never Know:
It’s a pretty good song. I think the beginning is strange with all the whoa whoa’s, but it picks up after a while. I actually think it sounds a bit like the Austin Power theme song at time. The percussion, and the fluty-sounding thing. (Forgive my unintelligent way of putting it.) Anyway, not my favorite, but still a good song.
Favorite Part: Towards the end when it slows down a bit and says, “what is this source of all this pain that you’ve been dishing…”
Favorite Quote: “I’ve got my gun, but I am low on ammunition.”
If Only:
Awesome song! I love it. No wonder its been doing so great on TRL. It’s still the pop we’re used to hearing, but it’s slightly different. I think the harmonica adds a lot to the sound. *Kudos to Taylor for picking it up*
Favorite Part: Right before the chorus. The whole “I wanna hold you and love you in my arms and then” part.
Favorite Quote: Two actually. “There’s a picture that’s hanging in the back of my head” and “Then I hear myself reply she’ll never let you in, this time, tonight.”
This Time Around:
This is a great song, but I must admit I’m a little This Time Arounded out because it was the one and only song I could play for a while, and believe me, I played it A LOT! Anyway, I think the song had a really deep meaning and that made it a sensible choice for the first single. It showed the world that this wasn’t the same old MMMBopin’ Hanson. (Did that make any sense at all?)
Favorite Part: When Taylor practically screams “Do you know why I died?” towards the end. Talk about goose bumps. Not to mention the look on his face in the video! :o)
Favorite Quote: “All I know is that fear has got to go this time around.”
Runaway Run:
I can’t say enough good things about this song. Ironically enough I like to go running to this song. It has a great beat and it kinda reminds me of the old Hanson. I must say it’s probably the song I listen to most on the whole cd. It’s just fun to listen to it.
Favorite Part: When you think the song has ended, but then it picks back up with that awesome drumbeat. Zac, you are the man!
Favorite Quote: I have two on this one also. “Just a picture and a feeling and a face. How could I forget your touch, your warm embrace.” And “Wish I could frame you and this feeling one the wall. To stare at ‘til there is no time.”
Save Me:
One of my absolute favorite songs on the cd. Truly amazing is one of the only ways to describe it. How Taylor reaches those notes is completely beyond me (I can’t even sing that high), but man is he good at it. The song is so heartfelt too. The ultimate down on your knees asking for forgiveness song.
Favorite Part: Without a doubt the bridge. There’s so much emotion in it, especially how they repeat “I’m wrong.”
Favorite Quote: “Heaven thought I’d find a way.” Well, you can’t have a religious freak for a best friend and not think that that line is awesome.
Dying To Be Alive:
This is one of the most soulful songs I’ve ever heard. From start to finish you feel very spiritual, and you really believe in what they are saying. It almost makes you want to reach out and touch someone’s life as this song has touched yours. The only thing that doesn’t seem to fit is the staccato feeling in the chorus.
Favorite Part: The very ending with just Taylor and the piano. It sends shivers down your spine.
Favorite Quote: “We’re all on the ground just crying out would somebody save me please.”
Can’t Stop:
Wait, you mean this is a Hanson song? This is certainly an indication of their new sound, and guess what, I’m liking it. This song has almost a rappy feel. Now we all know why Zac and Ike were practicing in Tulsa Tokyo and Middle of Nowhere. It’s defiantly one of the most fun songs to listen to on the album.
Favorite Part: The tick tock goes the clock part, and all of the iii eee iii eee iii eee iii iii effects.
Favorite Quote: “Tell me what it means, I’m bursting at the seams.”
Wish That I Was There:
Wow, is this our little Zac? I guess he’s not so little anymore, but what a sweet song to sing (no pun intended). I feel it tells the story of a long distance relationship, and I’m sure its very close to home for them, whether it be a girl, a friend, or even a family member that they haven’t seen in a while. Some people may think it’s a bit repetitive, but I find it just right.
Favorite Part: At the end when Zac is singing the chorus and Taylor and singing the “And you make me feeeeel” part in counter point. (Leave it to me to have Taylor in my favorite part of Zac’s song.)
Favorite Quote: “I just want to see you a little more, I just want to dream of you some more.”
Love Song:
When I first heard this song my mouth probably dropped open. I have say a big ole ‘way to go Ike’ on this one. This song is totally amazing in every aspect. Talk about your heart just melting. I don’t listen to it as often as some of the others, probably cuz I heard it more in the beginning along with This Time Around, but it still gets me every time I do listen to it. It’s even taught me a few lessons about love, but we won’t get into that here.
Favorite Part: When the excitement builds up and then it kinda stops and he says, “I wish someone would have told me before”
Favorite Quote: “We said we’d be together ‘til death do us part.”
Sure About It:
As if this cd didn’t already have enough variety on it, I think that this song has a bit of a country feel to it. Maybe not exactly, but its slightly there. Sure, the chorus is a bit of a jumble, but I think that the message is what really makes this song. What I get from this song is that if you get mixed up in drugs and violence you will be lost in your life. You will be sure that you’re defiantly not sure where you are going.
Favorite Part: The my faucets running and my car got towed, and my heart is pumping in my feet got cold parts.
Favorite Quote: “Sitting in the corner of nowhere road, just between I wish I could and I don’t know.”
Hand In Hand:
Although I hate to admit it this is probably my least favorite song on the cd. It defiantly has its good parts, but it’s just not exactly my style. I think the thing that I don’t like about it is the ending. All of those say good-bye’s over and over again. It kinda gets boring to me, but I do like the beginning.
Favorite Part: In the chorus when they are in three-part harmony. That’s very cool sounding.
Favorite Quote: “I realized just what I’d give to get you back in my arms.”
In The City:
This song is best enjoyed with headphones. You get to hear all of the carefully planned extra percussion instruments that are added on this song. Plus you get the whole Taylor in your left ear, Ike in your right ear effect on the I’m gonna ask you once again part. And don’t we all just love Zac going spastic at the end like in Look At You. I think this song should be a single so they can show the world how much they’ve grown up and become great musicians with many different styles.
Favorite Part: The “I’m gonna ask you once again, you gotta tell me once again, do you love me” part.
Favorite Quote: “If I asked you now, you’d give that look to kill.”
A Song To Sing:
This is my other favorite song on the cd besides Save Me. I’m a sucker for slow songs. There are just too many good things you could say about this song. It’s so meaningful, and wonderful. It defiantly sounds like they mean what they’re singing. I like the choice of only using the piano accompaniment too. I think this should be Taylor’s song on the up-coming tour like More Than Anything was Ike’s last time.
Favorite Part: The bridge, it just makes the song.
Favorite Quote: “You’re the tar in that old cigar, you’re the worn out cable on a cable car.”
Lookie, Ike gives it a 10!
