Chapter 1
Cindy
I always hated when I had to change schools. It always happened every couple of years. I complained to my dad every time, but his only answer was “That’s life in the military.” Even though I loved my father very much, I hated that. The tone of voice he used, like he understood what I was going through, but couldn’t do anything to help out. He didn’t understand though, he never would. But there was nothing I could do about it. I was stuck with him.
The sound of the bell signaling the beginning of class brought me out of my thought process. It was my first day at a new school just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was about a month into my senior year in high school. I had hoped to make it through my high school career at my last school, but duty called and we packed up and moved here. It was okay though, I already liked Tulsa, and I knew it would probably be my last move ever.
Moments later the teacher stood in front of class and quickly announced my presence to the class. It was just as usual. A few friendly looks, and a few weird stares. I was used to it by now. The teacher then launched into some boring lecture about history. I was never one for history class, so I was struggling to pay attention already.
Suddenly the door flung open, and in walked the most beautiful creature I’d ever seen. He was about six feet tall, thin but muscular. He wore a plain black tee shirt emphasizing his muscular upper body, and baggy jeans that hung dangerously low on his narrow hips. He had the most piercing blue eyes, even from a distance I could see them sparkling, and he wore a smug grin on his face.
The teacher rolled her eyes, and didn’t miss a beat with her lecture. I took it as a sign he was this late quite often. With long strides he made it to the closest empty seat, right in front of me, and took a seat. Casually he leaned back, and slumped down a bit in his chair. This put his shaggy, dark blonde hair right in front of me. I stared at the back of his head, my hands wanting so badly to sift though the long locks. The blood boiled inside of me, taking all I had to keep myself from reaching out to him.
I watched him most of the class period, rather than focussing on history. He seemed to be paying about as much attention as I was. Like me, he wasn’t taking any notes. He didn’t even have paper and a pencil to do so even if he wanted. I wondered what his story was. How he came to sit in this very class, right in front of me. Why he didn’t seem to care at all what was going on in the classroom.
The bell rang again signaling the end of the class period. I stood up and started to gather my belongings. He stood up and turned around, giving me a look, narrowing his eyes. “You new?” he asked.
“Yep, just moved to Tulsa” I answered.
“Sorry I missed your spiel, if you had a spiel” he said. I shrugged and heading towards the door. “My name’s Taylor” he told me stepping into place beside me.
“Cindy” I said, offering my hand to shake his.
“Well Cindy, very nice to meet you” he said taking my hand in his. He had rough, callused fingers, but for some reason I thought how nice my hand felt in his.
Just then we made it to the classroom door. I turned one way to head towards my next class, and he turned towards the other. “Well, I guess this is where we part” he said. “Until we meet again.” He gave me a heart stopping smile, and a wink of the eye. I think my heart skipped a beat.
“Bye” I whispered, not trusting my voice completely. And with that, he was gone. I walked dazed to my next class, knowing I’d have trouble paying attention the rest of the day.

The day dragged on. Same old first day stuff. People were friendly, but nobody quite had the charm that Taylor did. Finally I took a seat in my last class. Shortly after class had started the door flung open again, and in walked Taylor in the same manner he had walked into history class that morning. However this time, he didn’t take the closest empty seat to the door. He paused first, and then walked across the room and sat down in the closest empty seat to me.
I briefly glanced over my shoulder at him. He gave that same gorgeous smile. Right away I knew I’d never be able to pay attention in this class as well. I could feel his eyes on me, staring holes into the back of my head. They washed over me, making me squirm a bit but I wouldn’t look back at him. I wondered what he was thinking.
Finally the class ended and I stood to leave. “So we meet again” I heard his raspy voice behind me. I turned and smiled.
“Nice to see you again Taylor” I said as sweetly as possible. If he could lay on the charm, I could do exactly the same.
“I guess I missed your spiel again,” he said sheepishly.
“Do you always make it a habit of being late?” I teased.
“Usually, its more fun that way” he grinned. I laughed.
We continued to chat all the way to my locker. “Well, this is my stop” I told him.
“Well then Cindy, I guess I’ll be seeing you tomorrow” he told me.
“Alright, good bye” I said, and watched him walk away. I grinned to myself. If this was how I was going to be starting and finishing my days, I decided I could get used to this school.
