Chapter 11
Taylor and Christine danced and talked with each other some, but they also did with many other people so they wouldn’t cause too much suspicion. Yet as the night wore on they found it harder and harder to stay away from each other.
At about 11:30 Christine was goofing off with Zac when Taylor came and grabbed her from behind. “Come on, let’s dance,” he said.
“He led her to where a bunch of people were dancing in the living room and joined in. Soon the music turned slow, and Christine found herself dancing a little too close to Taylor than she should have been. It was what she had been waiting for all night, yet she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being stared at. “Taylor, I think we’re being watched” she told him.
He nodded then leaned his head in close to hers. “Come to my bedroom in 5 minutes” he whispered in her ear.
She watched him turn and walk away feeling a glow all around and inside her. She stood there for a moment until Ike found her to introduce her to more people. She talked politely, but impatiently for a few minutes before excusing herself to the bathroom. She started to head for the bathroom, but then quickly changed directions and ascended the stairs.
She headed down the hallway and opened Taylor’s door. There he stood in a sexy manner leaning against his dresser, his hip jut out a bit, arms folded across his chest, and a little smirk on his face. All the lights in the room were turned off. The TV, on mute, sent a soft illumination across the room. “So, you actually thought I would miss watching the ball drop alone with you?” he asked.
She smiled and closed the door tightly behind her. “I should have known you’d have something up your sleeve” she said crossing the room and embracing him.
“Well, according to the TV we have 13 minute and 48 seconds that we can make the most of. How about we finish that dance?” he suggested.
“Sounds great to me” she agreed. They moved to the middle of the floor and swayed, even closer than before, to a melody heard only in their heads. Christine concentrated on the feeling of Taylor’s stomach breathing against her own, his warm breath on her neck, and their hearts magically beating as one.
When they finally broke Taylor produced a bottle of champagne and two glasses from the shelf behind him. He poured the glasses and they climbed into bed snuggling under the covers, and watching the last few minutes of the year tick away.
“Here it comes” Taylor whispered as the countdown began. The big 2003 numbers lit up, and they clicked their glasses together before taking sips.
“We’ll just pretend that this tastes good” Christine said making a face after taking a drink.
“You’re not a real alcohol person huh?” Taylor asked.
“Defiantly not champagne” she told him.
“That’s okay,” he said taking the glass from her and setting both glasses on the nightstand beside the bed. “I’d rather be in my right mind while enjoying you anyway.” Christine smiled brightly. “Happy 2003 baby” he added before leaning in for their most amazing and heart-stopping kiss yet.
Then, in a contented silence, they sat and watched the fire works and people on TV celebrating a New Year filled with endless possibilities.
About a half an hour went by before either of them said anything or moved. “People are probably leaving, I better get down to say goodbye” Taylor finally broke the silence and stood up.
“Alright, wake me when you get back up” Christine said half-asleep, and snuggling into the blankets. Taylor watched her adoringly for a few minutes before flicking the TV off and leaving the room.
