How Newton North and its administrators contributed to the creation of PCHS
I found very little variation in the opinions of North students. They didn't think for themselves, it seemed. So I began to search for the root of this problem, and found that it was the administration. The administration sets up a politically correct curriculum which includes countless "cultural" days and cultural novels. Even worse, they make sure that students have only one opinion: "Treat everyone exactly equally and do not say anything that might possibly offend anyone." They do whatever they can to enforce this attitude, even if by doing so they stifle freedom of speech.
During my sophomore year, two friends and I tried to start a publication: "Between the Lines." We were unable to do this, however, because of all the checkpoints Norths sets up for new publications. They don't want to see any opinions that deviate from theirs.
I was getting progressively more and more pissed off at how bland and one-sided North's publications were, and I wanted to pass out something that would make people react, make them question the way they lived, rather than blindly taking in all of North's values. The way I did that was through my sense of humor, through "A Day at PCHS."
But the administration's "unipinion" attitude was shown yet again in how they handled "A Day at PCHS." "Your opinion is different from ours," they said. "That is unacceptable."
