Bye Bye Balloons
This section of the site shows various demonstrations involving the destruction of balloons. Typically, Tae Kwon Do experts break balloons as part of a demonstration. Feet are the weapon of choice for destroying balloons, but in rare cases a fist is used. Balloons are also sometimes used in training, and for testing, but are used most often as part of a demonstration. Balloon breaking is spectacular to the audience, and allows a martial artist to display the gracefulness and accuaracy, but destructive power, of his art. Balloons are also less expensive than pine breaking-boards. Sometimes balloons are filled with powder or sparkle to add to the display. When balloons are used for training or testing, they provide a specific target for the artist, while allowing the instructor to grade performance. Believe it or not, it is not that easy to kick a balloon to bits. Try it. I've seen novice practitioners try it, only to have the balloon gently float away unskaved. Trust me, it takes a very powerful and accurate kick to kill a balloon. I've seen balloons broken with reverse-spin-kicks, jumping front kicks, ax-kicks, and roundhouse kicks. You will see that in these fantastic demonstrations from Tae Kwon Do artists from all over the world... All I can say is "Bye Bye Balloons"...................
