Someone had to do it and it happened to be the ISP which took the lead in taking the sport of squash to the districts as required by the state government to give it recognition. The Kolhapur Open, sponsored by Ugar Sugar Works, had a good response from the locals as 12 players from kolhapur and Sangli participated. The winner was richer by Rs.4,000, while the runner up got Rs.2,000. The team event between Kolhapur and ISP was well fought. The teams were level two-all.

In the decider Avinash Bhavnani of ISP beat local was jointly sponsored by Ugar Sugar Works Ltd. and ISP. The Squash courts at the Residency Club,  are part of a rich heritage left by the British.
