Cowboy Repair in Madden 2004

In the Franchise mode of Madden 2004 money is obviously a big factor in the management of your team. I happen to be a Dallas Cowboy fan and I of course have them as my team in Madden.

I fiddled around with the rosters one day in order to free up the Cowboys of their heavy salary cap. Not that the moves Jerry Jones previously made screwed the franchise over, it's just that in Madden the cap restrictions are very tight and with almost any team, you're set up for failure. So the easy way to get out of this jam if you're using the Cowboys as your franchise is as follows:

Step 1: Trade LG Larry Allen (98) to the Green Bay Packers for LG Mike Wahle (86), their 1st round draft pick, and their 4th round draft pick.

Analysis: Yes, you're losing probably the best left guard in NFL history, but hey, you get Wahle in return who's rated 86 and has only been playing since '98. More importantly, Allen's contract is worth 36.60M over 6 years while Wahle's is a mere 7.50M over 3 years.

Step 2: Trade DT La'Roi Glover (97) and your 7th round draft pick to the Oakland Raiders for DT Roderick Coleman (86), their 1st round draft pick, and their 3rd round draft pick. Analysis: This frees up a crapload of cap-room, most of all. Coleman has been around since '99 so you gain youth at the DT position. Plus, draft picks, of course.

Step 2: Trade SS Darren Woodson (96), your 2nd round draft pick, and the Raiders' 3rd round draft pick to the San Diego Chargers for SS Kwame Lassister (87), their 1st round draft pick, and their 3rd round draft pick.

Analysis: Step 2: Trade CB Terence Newman (82) to the Philadelphia Eagles for CB Sheldon Brown (76) and their 4th round draft pick.

Analysis: If Jerry Jones made any mistakes it had to be here with Newman. Oh yeah he was definitely worth being our 1st round pick and yes we needed a good CB badly... but he made Newman the highest paid rookie CB ever. I don't think we should've gone that far. That's is exactly why his value to most teams isn't very great. I scanned Newman through every team who had a decent CB to give back and the Eagles were one of very few teams who would accept a trade for Newman. Kinda sucks that Newman doesn't change divisions though. That's the only real flaw in this trade.

Step 3: Trade LT Flozell Adams (86), your 6th round draft pick, and your 7th round draft pick for LT Roman Oben (82), their 2nd round draft pick, and their 3rd round draft pick.
