SPECIAL ORDER NO. 8 MARCH 9, 2007From: Chief of Department
To: Deputy Fire Chiefs, All Divisions
Subject: I. GENERAL ORDER RESCINDED
As of this date, Section IV, Change in Standard Response Procedures, of General Order No. 6, dated February 26, 2004, is hereby rescinded.
II. STANDARD REPONSE PROCEDURES
Effective 1800 hours, March 7, 2007, the following policy was implemented:
A Tower Company will no longer be dispatched on report of smoke showing.
They will respond, as per the running cards, on multiple alarms.
The striking of a working fire (box 45) will be discontinued.
All boxes will be struck; the dispatching of 2 and 1 will no longer be done.
On the 1st alarm the incident commander will assign one company as a RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) company.
If the RIT company is assigned a fire ground task, a 2nd alarm must be ordered.
On the 2nd alarm, two companies (one ladder, one engine) will be assigned as a RIT team.
Fire Alarm will assign the RIT team based on the last ladder company and engine company that will be arriving on the scene.
This may or may not be the 4th assigned engine company or 2nd assigned ladder company. Fire Alarm will also assign a District Fire Chief to act as the RIT team Chief.
Fire Alarm will notify the incident commander as soon as possible as to which District Fire Chief,
engine company and ladder company has been assigned as the RIT team.
The TAC Unit will automatically print out and deliver to the incident commander a detailed map of the area for the incident.
