Uyen Mi's real name is Vina Truong. She was
born in New Orleans after her family came to settle here in 1975. From a very
young age, Uyen Mi has demonstrated an interest in music. This didn't go
unnoticed as her father, Mr. Truong Si Luong, a musician himself,
encouraged his young daughter to pursue this field.
Uyen Mi's older sister is Ni Ni, the other
third of the trio who often appears on Asia's Entertainment videos with
her younger sibling and Ha Vy. Being from a family of musicians, Uyen Mi
enjoyed both the tutelage from her father and older sister. She sang for
the first time in front of an audience at her family's restaurant at the
age of 12. However, she didn't really take up singing until her senior year
in high school when she was 17 when she joined her school's choir. Uyen Mi
also plays the flute.
Uyen Mi officially started singing
professionally in 1993. She began to win many fans through this first
appearance. To date, she still considered her performance of the song,
"Lien Khuc New Wave" to be the most memorable. Uyen Mi enjoys all types of
music so long as it is melodic. While she likes music in general, she likes
American Pop music the most as her favorite song thus far is "Smooth Operator".
She first recorded,"The Rose" in the CD
titled Mua Thu Menh Mang, and appeared on video for the first time
in "Asia 10th Anniversary" video. Uyen Mi enjoys talking to her fans after
her concerts. During her free time, she loves to go "clubing" and exercising.
But, she added that recently she hasn't had the time due to her busy schedule
with school, recording, and appearing in concerts.
Uyen Mi likes pastas and fruit juices. At
this point in her young career, Uyen Mi has already traveled the world and
all over the United States. When asked about her favorite place, she said
without a doubt it would have to be New Orleans, her home town.
In the future, Uyen Mi would like to continue
to sing and perform. In addition, she is currently studying to someday become
a music teacher.
