There are two groups of dragons on Ordanna. The good dragons and the evil dragons. The good dragons are the metallic dragons. Gold, silver, copper, brass, and bronze. The Evil dragons are the chromatic dragons. Red, black, green, blue, and white.
THE DARK DRAGONS
RED DRAGONS Red dragons are the most evil, greedy, and terrible of all the dark dragons. They are fanatical collectors who prize their enormous collections above all else. Red dragons are confident, vain, and cunning combatants. Their infamous breath weapon, a scorching cone of fire, is this evil creature's trademark. They share the same landscapes as Gold, Copper, and Silver dragons, and battles between the metallic and red dragons are legendary. Gold dragons are their eternal enemies, because the two subspecies are nearly identical in power. All other dragons and creatures are considered competition, and the Reds soon move to destroy the invaders. These dragons are masters of fire, and their powerful spells reflect this affinity. They are primarily carnivorous and find the flesh of maidens a delicacy, but can feed on just about anything.
BLACK DRAGONS Black dragons are an aggressive and short tempered race of swamp-loving chromatics. They love dark and damp surroundings that match the hue of their scales and feed primarily on water-dwelling animals. Some individuals are also found lurking around ruins in steamy rainforests or jungles. They are skillful warriors, but prefer to ambush enemies and then attack with their breath weapon, a long stream of sizzling acid. They are not as smart as many of their cousins, but are still formidable adversaries.
GREEN DRAGONS Green Dragons are an unpleasant race of forest-dwelling chromatic dragons that hate all good creatures with a fierce passion. Green dragons love to prey on intelligent, good-aligned creatures, especially elves. They are a cruel subspecies that loves to instill terror in lesser opponents before torturing them to death. Surprisingly, green dragons make excellent parents that will fight to the death to protect their offspring. Generally, these dragons will attack any intruder to their territories, or will attempt to enslave intelligent beings. Green dragons have a breath weapon of extremely toxic chlorine gas, similar to that of a Gold dragon's secondary breath weapon.
BLUE DRAGONS Blue dragons are large, colorful, desert-dwelling dragons that are unnaturally territorial. Almost as precious as their hoards are their territories: vast expanses of flat, arid land, which they will spend hours admiring and watching for intruders. Bronze and Brass dragons are their greatest enemies, though the blue dragons have an advantage in their powerful lightning-bolt breath weapon. They are easy to spot, but are skillful borrowers, digging themselves under the sands to ambush prey and intruders. For a creature that lives in such harsh conditions, the blue dragon has a huge appetite. Anything and everything edible that is found is eaten: from sand lizards to entire roving bands of herd animals. Like green dragons, blue dragons and their mates are fiercely protective of their young.
WHITE DRAGONS White dragons are the smallest and least intelligent of the chromatic dragons. They may be slow-witted, but are coldly efficient hunters. White dragons call frozen arctic expanses their homes, and are wonderfully adapted to live in this harsh environment. Their ghostly white scales blend in with the snowy backdrops of their homes, and they enjoy ambushing their prey using this natural camouflage. Any creatures caught with the intent of becoming prey are always frozen somehow before being eaten. With intelligent opponents, the dragons use their breath weapon (a cone of frost) and then their claws and teeth.
DRAGONS OF GOOD GOLD DRAGONS Gold dragons are generally the largest and one of the most intelligent of the metallic dragons. They are kind, helpful, and empathetic creatures with glowing hides of shimmering gold scales. Gold dragons are master spell-casters and like all other metallic dragons, have two breath weapons. One is a scorching cone of flame and the other is a giant cloud of extremely concentrated chlorine gas. Though they are very rare, gold dragons manage to survive in any climate, preferring to construct their lairs out of ruins, excavated caverns, and abandoned castles. They are friendly to nearly all neutral and good-aligned creatures, especially to travelers who come bearing gifts. Though gold dragons feed on just about anything, fine gems and pearls brought as gifts are their most prized foods. Sometimes, a gold dragon will leave its lair and take a different form to interact with other sentient creatures. Young gold dragons have even been known to pair up with riders and fly into raging battles against evil.
BRASS DRAGONS Few creatures call the scorching desert sands and arid dry plains their home, but one species of metallic dragon flourishes in such an environment. Brass dragons are enigmatic creatures that especially love conversation and company, though such things are often rare due to the harsh nature of their favored habitats. Brass dragons enjoy many powers that deal with control of these harsh desert elements. Their primary breath weapon is a powerful burst of searing desert air, hot enough to crisp the flesh from unprotected enemies. They also have a great cache of spells and abilities (such as controlling temperature, creating and destroying water, and forming fierce dust storms) that help them survive and make life miserable for unprepared opponents. If all else fails, the metallic beast will simply use its second breath weapon, a cone of sleep gas, to incapacitate an enemy. Brass dragons and the chromatic blue dragons are eternal enemies. Blue dragons often have the advantage over the smaller brass dragons, for the chromatics have a much more powerful breath weapon (lightning) and are far more aggressive. Brass dragons will flee and find allies to combat the blue-scaled scourge, or use their superior spell-casting abilities and intelligence to gain the upper hand.
COPPER DRAGONS The copper dragon is a large, enigmatic race that delights in riddles, pranks, and practical jokes. They dwell in large, mountainous or hilly lairs and often have to deal with red dragons in fierce disputes over territory. Coppers prefer to tease and taunt enemies from often out-of-reach perches, goading them on to bad decisions where the metallic dragon can easily gain control of the situation. This teasing, joking, and sometimes downright irrational behavior often extends into dealings with other beings, and it can be hard for some coppers to make or keep friends. Coppers have two potent breath weapons: one is a powerful belch of acid, and the other is a cloud of gas that slows down opponents. In addition to these weapons, copper dragons use magic spells that are sometimes designed to embarrass, demoralize, and/or trap enemies. Copper dragons love to hunt, and relish the raw, juicy flesh from any fresh kill. They also enjoy snacking on such treats as venomous creatures, though a certain few also seem to delight in swallowing untended horses, much to the dismay of the riders.
BRONZE DRAGONS Bronze dragons are a water-loving subspecies that almost always constructs its lair near the shores of deep-watered oceans and seas. Often the entrances to these massive dwellings lay on the ocean floor. Bronze dragons are accomplished swimmers, and spend much of their time patrolling the seas, inspecting shipwrecks, or destroying the vessels of pirates. The fearsome breath weapon of the bronze, a stroke of lightning, is even usable underwater, thanks to the dragon's spells. The other breath weapon is a cloud of repulsion gas, which harmlessly but effectively forces creatures away from the dragon. Bronzes love to dine on sea-kelp, sharks, and pearls. They consider pirates and amphibious evil humanoids their greatest foes. They often befriend dolphins, whales, and seals, and these aquatic mammals share a symbiotic relationship with the bronze dragons. Most beings encounter bronze dragons in the military. These dragons are not only fascinated by humans and demi-humans, but they jump at the chance to join armed services to battle the forces of evil.
SILVER DRAGONS Silver dragons are beautiful, cunning, and powerful creatures that are also often found serving an army fighting on the side of good. However, in most cases the dragons are nonviolent and helpful, preferring to immobilize opponents unless in extreme danger. Silver dragons live on high mountains and even in skyward realms sculpted from clouds. They are accomplished shapeshifters, and love to take on human form to interact with mortals. Human food is their favorite source of nutrition. Silvers have two breath weapons, one is a cloud of paralyzation gas that freezes enemies in their place, and the other is a strong blast of cold. Their greatest enemies are red dragons, who vie for the same territory.
