Derek has participated in the last two Halloween Foosball Tournaments and lost to Corey in each one. Corey actually laughed out loud when he heard he had to face him again in 2002, this coming after Corey claimed that if Derek won the tournament, he'd quit. The Corey-Derek rivalry is something out of the Steve-Angel ilk, completely random for no reason at all.
However, if Derek is going to be remembered for anything he accomplished in the 2002 Tournament, it will be for his stunning upset victory over the heavily hyped Wilson Rith in round one. Wilson had been in intense training and many figured he was the most likely person to make the jump to the next level. However, in a shocking turn of events, Derek put an end to all that talk, and advanced into the quarterfinals, also temporarily putting his W-L record to .500
Derek also has quite a history in the Doubles Tournament. He was the first person to ever enter as a one man doubles team in 2001. Then in 2002, he formed an unlikely alliance with Colin.
Derek also served as the referee in The 2001 Big Game, as well as a Budweiser spokesman
