Realistic PRO-43, 200 Channel Handheld Scanner
Primary Handheld Scanner
(with VHF, UHF, AIR, 800MHz, Mil Air, AM/FM shift)

The Radio Shack PRO-43 is primarily used as my "Special Events Scanner" and I use it when the power goes out. The 200 channels allows room to put in all local public safety, including MSP, Air, Military, and misc. frequencies. The PRO-43 is one of the best conventional handheld scanners ever sold by Radio Shack. The company that made the PRO-43 is called General Research Electronics (GRE). GRE made most of the famous Realistic (Radioshack) scanners that Uniden didn't make. As far as I know GRE no longer makes Police Scanners for Radio Shack its mostly Uniden and some foriegn company that makes them now for RS. What makes the PRO-43 so great is the ease of operation, and the ability to sucessfully filter out interference, and lock onto frequencies easier than any other handheld scanner I have ever owned. It can easily lock on to low-band signals and has exceptional perfomance on mostly every band. The scanner proved how good it was during the March 2001 Blizzard. This scanner can be modified to do Cellular Phones. My PRO-43 is not modified because of my extreme lack of interest in monitoring cellular, plus with more "cellphones" going digital, it wouldn't be worth the effort to modify it. If I were to do any modifications to this radio it would be the "remove the beep" mod. and "improving the PRO-43's audio" mod. I got this scanner for a bargain price, and in very good condition.
