I have created this site to share my experiences in building cedar strip canoes and other things with you. I have found a lot of help on the net through other sites but couldn't localize everything I needed. So, that is why I created this site.
A little about myself; I am in my late twenties, have a wife and three kids, and work full time. I have very little time to relax so I stay out of trouble by building things. I first got the Idea of building a canoe while I was in my early teens. I got a book from the library called "Canoe Craft". The book is what made the project possible. After reading it ( many times )and called the book's writers for tips and insight. I was soon hooked on the idea of building my own canoe.
I am a very hand / tool co-ordinated individual who has spent a lot of time working with tools, so I didn't hesitate to jump to a new challenge. It took me over ten years to find the time, money, space, and all the tools I needed, but I finally had all the chips fall into place the summer of 2001.
I originally eyed the "Chestnut Prospector" design in "Canoe Craft" but went with plans for the "Peterborough Champlain" which I bought from a marina shop in Toronto. I simply liked the look better. The pictures I use in my cedar strip canoe builders page, show most of the steps I did in completing the canoe.
I hope you enjoy and find my site helpfull and decide to build one yourself.
Thanks, Mike
