Beyond Exhausted
I am ready to drop from exhaustion and it’s only 8.30.
I am so old!
Cathy sent me a card today that has a picture of a baby on it, food all over it’s face and sort of dropping out of its mouth. I'm so tired that I think I'll drool like that if I eat...hands might not hit the mouth or my muscles are too tired to chew.
Lest you think my friends are too odd, the inside of the card said, "Let’s do lunch". It was enough to draw a weak giggle from me.

The kids came back today, so the old building was suddenly noisy and bustling. It was nice to have the kids around again. I love it when they're happy to see you! And fifth graders still like to hug hello. Most of them are tired of the summer and are glad to be back with their friends. There were a couple of kids I got big smiles from when they saw me, so that was a small bit of gratification.
So I ran my schedule for the morning (ran being the operative word…..), then had to go to a special ed department meeting at the high school.

The department meeting went from 1:15 to 3:15, then I had to go back to my building to interview a potential aide. Nothing like spending extra time with my two favorite people, the Village Idiot and The Ice Queen.
The applicant was an older woman, maybe only in late forties or early fifties, but looked even older than that. She was slight and sort of stooped (not stupid) and had gray hair, which probably made her look older.
I wasn't crazy about her, but she passed our criteria: we stuck a mirror under her nose and she was breathing. She has worked as an aide in a couple of area systems and is slated to go back to her job next week. We pay our aides more than the system she is in, and it would shorten her commute quite a bit to work for us, but she also worked in a coffee shop every morning from 6:30 to 9:30 and if she came to work for us the salary had to be enough to cover her leaving that job.
Obviously that wasn't something that was going to happen. School systems don’t do that.

Part of me regrets that we didn't hire a body, but part of me is relieved, as she really wasn't my kind of person. I'd like to have an assistant that I like and this one was a bit too lifeless for my taste. I want someone with a bubbly personality and a sense of humor. This one was a mouse.

So I didn't get home until after five. I stopped at a fabulous fast food place (that has a drive-up window) for a scallop plate to take home, I knew I couldn't deal with cooking. I'm really worn out.
I'm too tired to think of anything else to say. I think I'm in for a miserable year with one of the teachers who has four of my neediest kids.
She's a whiny pain in the ass.
