Wishing Upon A Star

July 26-Reading Instructions

Someday I’ll actually sit and read the instruction manuals for some of the stuff I own.

You never know what you’ll discover.

For example, I have your basic stereo set-up. No big speakers with surround sound, nothing fancy. I still even have a turntable that I refuse to part with. I doubt that I’ve played anything but a CD or tape in fifteen years, but I have this huge album collection and…well…you just never know when I might want to play one of them.

The fact that I’ve converted most of them to CD, notwithstanding.

So where is this leading? I was playing with the buttons on my relatively new CD changer and discovered something called "shuffle". I’ve only had this CD player for a couple of months and it’s the first one I’ve had that plays more than one CD (I know, I’m in the dark ages, but the old one worked just fine.) I had no idea that it would play through all six CDs choosing songs at random.

I wonder what else I’ll discover if I read the instructions? If I can find them, that is. I know they’re around here somewhere!

This was fun. It would be a great way to make an interesting mix tape.

Lord knows what I’d learn if I ever read the computer manual.

This computer has all sorts of features that I have no idea what to do with. There’s probably stuff that could be deleted as well, but I don’t know what. Lest I appear to be a moron, this computer was a cast off from a friend’s office, so I have no idea where the manuals might be.

Hey, it was practically free! And it’s a MAC, which makes many people moan, but makes me happy. I need a Mac to be compatible with the dinosaurs that are in my office at school. All my files for testing, etc. are on a Mac format, and I prefer to be able to work at home rather than stay at school late.

Someday I’ll figure out what all these features are meant to do.

I finished my book yesterday, so I have to find another one immediately. I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for, though. I’d like something with a touch of humor to it I think.

It’s good to be reading again. I don’t always have the time to read during the school year, or if I do I fall asleep. I’ve always used the summer to feed my reading habit and even read two hundred books a couple summers ago.

Obviously I had no life and no money that summer, so all I did was read. But it was satisfying.

I’ve clearly decided that summer school is over. I’m being really lax in my plans and have no interest in finding any ways to entertain these kids.

I’m counting the minutes till noon on Friday. Then…blessed freedom.

For a couple of weeks at least.
