Wishing Upon a Star
July 8 -- Plant Diva
What a glorious day! The air has cleared, the sky is a beautiful bright blue, and there’s even a breeze. This is the type of New England day that I love. Although nothing beats fall.
My plants are not looking too good. I live on the third floor of a condo building and have two balconies. There’s a small one off the living room and a larger one off the bedroom. These balconies have caused me to become plant obsessed. I have thirty-two containers of one kind or another. I am the Queen of Supertunias. If you’ve never seen a supertunia, you don’t know what you’re missing. These suckers start to cascade, and I mean CASCADE! They are huge and full. And of course I went overboard planting them.
The brutal weather has done a job on them though. They’re looking wilted and leggy. I’ve watered them like mad, and keep dumping Miracle Grow on them, but I’m worried about them. Watering is a chore. I have to keep coming back and forth to the kitchen sink to fill the watering can. At last try it took eight refills. I think I need a yoke. Then I could just balance the buckets on my shoulders. I might have done that in a past life.
I have more than supertunias; I have a variety of geraniums, impatiens, and snapdragons. The snapdragons are a surprise, as they seem to keep re-seeding themselves all over the place. I’ve got Portulaca and marigolds that have done the same thing. Those are the mystery pots. Stuff is growing in them, but I have no clue what. Could be weeds for all I know. I just keep watering and waiting to see if anything blooms.
Tonight is another chorus meeting. This time to design choreography for "Another Openin’, Another Show". I hope we can do it quickly, I’m tired and don’t feel like putting in a lot of time on this. Even if I get home by eleven I end up being so wired that it takes a couple hours for me to get to sleep.
