Wishing Upon A Star

August 20
Rushing it

Why are there already Halloween and Thanksgiving things out in the stores? It’s still AUGUST and the stuff is everywhere! Can’t they at least wait until after Labor Day??

I bring this up because I went to those two most evil of places today, Wal-Mart and the Christmas Tree Shop.

It’s best not to discuss what I spent.

Sadly, I can’t even describe what I bought because I haven’t opened the bags yet, so I’m not really sure what I purchased….

I do know that I picked up some nice things for my secret stamper. I like to buy things ahead of time and then put together boxes that include some holiday type of things to go with the stamping supplies. I don’t think she reads this page, but in case she does I can’t be more specific.

I do know that I got some nice holiday things for myself. I love fall and all the things that go with it, especially in New England. I personally can’t wear fall colors, but I love how it looks around here when the colors start to change. The hues are usually spectacular, although they’re saying that because we’ve had this drought all summer, the fall colors won’t be very vibrant.

That will be disappointing.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love all the spooky things associated with Halloween (this coming from a person who hates scary movies!), and am crazy about pumpkins and witches and black cats. I always decorate for Halloween, and probably already have too much Halloween stuff. But that didn’t stop me from getting more.

Grin.

Wal-Mart is one of those places that I start just throwing things in the cart and figuring I’ll need them eventually. I probably got more hair and contact lens stuff, and Lord knows I need that like a hole in the head. But I discussed that quirk back in July.

They did have some denim leggings, which I’m hoping are what I wanted. I’ve been looking to replace my denim stirrup pants, but they don’t exist any more. If these work as replacements I’ll go back to get a couple more pairs of them. Those denim stirrup pants were among the best things I ever owned, I wore them to death.

Wal-Mart also had some surprisingly nice bedding. There was one comforter that I think I might have bought if they’d had the right size for my bed. Not that I need a comforter...Not that I ever make the bed so that anyone would notice my comforter…But it was pretty.

I got another letter today from the school system. This one from the Ice Queen telling us how much she missed the staff and all the stuff that’s coming up this year.

A true sign that summer is over and reality is about to whap you in the head.

I wanted to run screaming into traffic.

There is nothing to look forward to, and some of the things she outlined in this letter were things that I am already dreading.

I wonder how many sick days I have?

One final sad commentary. It’s Friday night at ten o’clock and I am home watching television, excited that the Iron Chef is on now!

That is really really pathetic.
