Rebecca Pitcher as Christine Daae:
Rebecca Pitcher became my favorite actress playing the role of Christine Daae. This scene-by-scene review is on why I think so.
In Hannibal she had nice facial expressions and she danced well. She could tell what the Phantom was going to do when Carlotta sings "Think of Me".
Her "Think of Me" was great! She has a lovely rich operatic voice. She also sings great in songs like "Angel of Music" and "Little Lotte."
"Angel of Music/The Mirror", she did well with facial expressions and once again with her wonderful voice.
"The Phantom of the Opera" she also sang well. She hit the high note real high. The best I've heard! It gave me goosebumps down my back! I think her microphone went on and off, during her vocalizing section in the title song, it went on and off.
"The Music of the Night" was one of her hilights of the show! Two words to decribe this scene is FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!! Even with an understudy phantom, William R. Park, she still seemed under his spell. She was listening and savoring each minute. The intensity she had when started right in his eyes, it was breathtaking! She was falling love with his voice, his words, and his soul. Her eyes showed she was attracted to The Phantom.
In "Il Muto",she was great as a maid and a man. While a maid she was dusting and showing off her backside. As a man she did a good job at it!
"All I Ask of You" she sang nicely once again. The kiss was nice between the two characters. When she went into Raoul's arm I felt relieved, she wasn't scared, she was in the arms of the man that would protect her. (Don't get me wrong, I'm cheering for The Phantom!)
"Masquerade" I got my binoculars to work and zoomed in when she and Raoul sang their duet. Also some nice facial expressions along with good dancing. All the cast did well in the scene.
"Notes" She seemed scared to do the opera, and Raoul comforted her. The scene was the same old thing, but she did nice in "Twisted Every Way", a favorite spot I like in the musical.
"Wishing/Wandering" she sang well. There is not much they can do in this scene. But I enjoyed it. There was a nice blend between her and William operatic voices. The three main leads work well together.
"Point of No Return" she kept shinning her apple on her dress. I guess she wanted it real clean. She was great in the scene. I missed some facials because I kept looking on and off with my binoculars. I've seen more touching and such but hey, William was an understudy.
I liked how she said "no..NO!", I don't know why.
"The Final Lair" was her other hilight of the show.
She sang bravely against the phantom. She protected Raoul well. When Raoul was in the noose, she looked back and forth to them deciding who to go to. When she embrassed The Phantom, it turned out to be a nice kiss. I could tell she loved him. When he said "go now..." she looked at The Phantom and Raoul like she was still deciding who to be with. When she returned the ring she ran off the stage crying.
Where I'm getting at is she's great in the role because of her lovely voice and those facial expression, including those eyes, makes you see she loves The Phantom and also Raoul. She did a wonderful job!
T.V. Special:
There was a TV special on Buffalo's Channel 7. I enjoyed this special because there were colorful clips of the cast, which included Rebecca. I liked seeing her in "The Music of the Night" and the facial expressions she gave, showed she had chemistry with Ted Keegan on stage. The clips made me want to see her in the role more.
She also did a great interview. She understands the role and she put it in slang. It was neat to watch. A line that she said I love the most is: "In the beginning she see Raoul and she's like he's great, he's cool,....but The Phantom, that's like her thing."
Go see Rebecca Pitcher in the role while you can!
