Scene 1: Michelle's Bedroom
(Michelle walks into the room after getting ice cream. Danny has--for some unknown reason--gotten dressed, and is now asleep, lying facedown on the bed. Looks rather comfy actually. Michelle climbs on the bed and kisses the side of his face.)
Danny: (Moans.) Hey.
Michelle: Hey, yourself.
Danny: What time is it? (Looks at the clock.) Oh. I conked (Or is it "konked"? Hmm...) out. What...why were...you were gone a long time.
Michelle: I'm sorry.
Danny: Where's the ice cream?
Michelle: Ice cream? (And I thought I had a bad memory!) Oh...
Danny: Yeah, the reason you went out.
Michelle: I'm sorry. I went across town to the homemade ice cream place because it's better there, and they didn't have it. Well, they probably did, but they were closed by the time I got there, so...
Danny: Uh-huh. So what did you do? Where were you?
Michelle: I was driving around for a little bit, thinking about Ben and the way I've been acting lately.
Danny: (A bit confused. Either that, or he's curious. I can't tell. It's one or the other.) What do you mean?
Michelle: Well, it's just, you know...I like go out of my mind every time I hear his name or I see him. With everything that happened, it...in the courtroom, me going off at him...
Danny: Yeah, I remember. You don't have to remind me.
Michelle: And...and the knife business at Company. (You pulled a knife on someone. I mean, you had a good reason, but still. I'd hardly call it "the knife business.") I just couldn't let it go, I couldn't let it go. It was making me insane.
Danny: So what did you decide?
Michelle: Decide?
Danny: Yeah, honey, you were gone a long time. Driving around...I mean, I hope you came to some kind of conclusion.
Michelle: I did. I...I'm going to put him out of my mind. I'm going to get over it. I am.
Danny: You are?
Michelle: I'm over it. Yes, I'm over it.
Danny: Okay.
Michelle: I promise, Ben Warren is not going to be a problem for us anymore.
Scene 2: Michelle's Bedroom
Danny: Well, I'm very glad that you're going to put Ben out of your mind.
Michelle: So am I.
Danny: So...you were out driving for a long time. Did you do anything interesting? Did you go anywhere?
Michelle: I made one stop.
Danny: Where?
Michelle: You're going to think I'm weird.
Danny: You married me, I know you're weird. (No, you got that wrong. A girl would be weird--and crazy--NOT to marry you.)
Michelle: I went to the cemetary.
Danny: What? At night? (Well, considering Springfield's inconsistency with time, it may very well have been day while she was at the cemetary!) That's spooky.
Michelle: I feel safe there. It's where my mom is.
Danny: Oh, you went to your mom's grave. Oh. Why?
Michelle: Because I go there when I feel like everything is out of control, and I don't know what to do. That sound crazy?
Danny: No. No, I do that with my father sometimes.
Michelle: You think he's listening? (Was it just me or did Joie Lenz sound very Southern when she said that? Oh...must've just been me.)
Danny: I don't know. I think sometimes he's, you know, looking over me, maybe keeping an eye on me. Did it help, talking to your mother?
Michelle: Yeah. I just found myself sitting there, rambling on and on about Ben and, uh, how Drew wants me to let it go and be the bigger person, and I don't know if I can be the bigger person after I almost killed you. (Say huh? I think that should be "after BEN almost killed you.")
Danny: And what do you think your mom thinks?
Michelle: It was really nice. I could almost see her sitting down next to me, and taking her shoes off, like we used to do at family picnics. And I could hear what she would've told me.
Danny: Mm-hmm. What?
Michelle: There...there was this guy who used to live here named Roger Thorpe.
Danny: Roger Thorpe...oh. Oh, yeah.
Michelle: Yeah.
Danny: My family stayed away from him. (Michelle chuckles.)
Michelle: Pretty much everyone did. He wasn't really the nicest guy in the world.
Danny: Mm-hmm. Like somebody else we know.
Michelle: Oh, yes. Well, I...I got to thinking about it, and--and I remembered that my mother was his friend. She didn't forget about the person that he was and the things that he did, but she saw something decent in him. She gave him the benefit of the doubt. She just always saw the good in people whether they'd shown it or not. And so my point is that she would have told me to not let anger control my life.
Danny: That's good advice.
Michelle: And especially when I have so much more to look...to look forward to. I have great friends. (Who? Bill? Okay, yeah, he's a good friend, but who else is there? Drew? I don't EVEN think so!) I have a wonderful, beautiful (Really beautiful!) husband who gave up everything to be with me.
Danny: Yes. And I would do it again in a flash.
Michelle: I'm never going to take you for granted, Danny.
Danny: (Smiles. I know, I know--big deal. He's always smiling. But this one is like totally OMG! Very, very, very extremely gorgeous.) I'll never take you for granted. Hey, next time you go to...you go to, uh, visit your mom's grave, I want to go, too, okay?
Michelle: Yeah?
Danny: Yeah.
Michelle: why?
Danny: Because I want to thank her for helping you out with all your anger and I just want to thank her for you.
Scene 3: Michelle's Bedroom
(Michelle is lying in Danny's arms now.)
Michelle: I really wish my mother could've met you. She would love you. To death.
Danny: I don't know about that. Let's face it, no one in your family's ever been very high on me.
Michelle: Yeah, by my mother always got past people's reputation and their family.
Danny: Oh, yeah? What about my family?
Michelle: Even your family, Dear.
Danny: I don't know. Do you think your mother and my mother would've gotten along? Would they've gone to see "Cats" together? (They're both laughing.) Play racquetball every Thursday? (I just cannot see Carmen playing any kind of sport. That's a bit scary. She'd probably wear high heels, too!) Cooked together every Thanksgiving? (As scary as it is to think of Carmen playing sports, it's even scarier to think of her cooking! That would just be a disaster waiting to happen.)
Michelle: Oh, God forbid your mother ever step foot in the kitchen. (Ah, great minds think alike.) No! No, I don't think that. I think, uhmm, I don't think my mother would've backed down from Carmen. As loving and forgiving as she was. She never...she never backed down when somebody she loved was in trouble.
Danny: You think your mother would've told you to back down from Ben?
Michelle: No. No, I think she would've said "Give him a chance, for Drew's sake." (Danny makes a face.) Look, I, you know, would've rather Drew's father be anyone else in Springfield but Ben, but he is and I am happy for her that she found her biological father after all this time, you know?
Danny: You're a good person.
Michelle: I haven't always acted that way. (Oh, come on, who has?)
Danny: Who has? (Well, look at that! Great minds really DO think alike! LOL)
Michelle: I guess. You know what I'd like to do?
Danny: What? Call it a night?
Michelle: I would really like to go to...
Danny: (Kissing her all over her face.) Hmm? Call it a night?
Michelle: ...this party for Max and Drew. Please? I just want to give them a little peace offering. Please?
Danny: Sounds like something your mother would've encouraged you to do. Alright, only because it's you.
Michelle: Mmm, I love you. (Gives him a kiss and then gets out of bed.)
Danny: I love you.
Michelle: Come on.
Danny: Let's do it.
Scene 4: Towers
(Drew's crying, etc, etc. Jesse's trying to comfort her. Danny and Michelle walk in, Drew looks at them and then back at Jesse. Danny's wearing what he wore for the adoption trial and Michelle's wearing that blue dress from a promo they did awhile back.)
