Scene 1: Bauer Kitchen
(Michelle opens the door to let Danny in. Michelle's wearing green! Not pink--finally! And Danny looks deliciously yummy in a dark suit with a bright blue shirt.)
Danny: Hey.
Michelle: Hi. Oh, hi. (They hug.)
Danny: I missed you last night.
Michelle: I missed you, too.
Danny: I hate being away from you. (Michelle sighs.) What's going on?
Michelle: Nothing. There's no...
Danny: What's the word on Selena?
Michelle: Nothing. There's no news on her, I mean, except nothing's changed from last night. I was just going to go to the hospital to visit her. Do you want to come with?
Danny: I can't. I actually...I have an appointment, but I'll try to drop by later on.
Michelle: Is there, uhmm, is there anything besides us that's bothering you?
Danny: Michelle, everything's bothering me. I mean, we got home last night and there was chaos everywhere. We don't know what's going on with Selena or why it happened or how it happened. I hate being away from you...at night.
Michelle: But, you understand why I'm...I took Drew and I had to stay here.
Danny: I know that you had to comfort Drew, but I also think you needed a breather.
Michelle: Yeah.
Danny: Yeah. And after you left last night, something interesting happened.
Michelle: Hmm?
Danny: I learned that Ben Warren is moving into our house.
Michelle: (Surprised.) What? Ben is moving in with your mother?
Danny: Yeah, I know. You should've seen him, too. Strutting around like he owns the place. Unbelievable.
Michelle: That is insane.
Danny: Then he has the nerve to say to me that his living in the house is a good thing for us, for you and me. (Yes, Danny...that's what "us" means.)
Michelle: (Half laughs.) Reallly? How is that?
Danny: Oh, he thinks that he's my ticket out of the family. That he would be happy to take over my responsibilities and become the man of the house. Unbelievable. It's a joke.
Michelle: (There's kinda a confused look on her face.) Uh, why exactly is that such a bad idea?
Danny: (Looks at her as if she's crazy.) Why? Are you kidding?
Michelle: No, I'm not. I think this could be our chance to be free.
Scene 2: Bauer Kitchen
Danny: I--I don't think you understand. It is not as easy as that, as just walking away.
Michelle: Yeah, it is. You put one foot in front of the other and you go, but you have to want to first.
Danny: This is not about what I want. You may not see Ben as--as the enemy that I do.
Michelle: So what, we finish the Ben problem and then we have a normal life? Or we finish with the bonds as soon as we get home, as soon as this...what is the next excuse?
Danny: They're not excuses. That is completely unfair. (Life's not fair, Danny.)
Michelle: Fairness has never played a part in this. (See?) I believed in you. I believed that your family obligation would end. So what am I supposed to think now that you tell me that you want what I want, and you don't? (She has a pretty damn good point, Danny...)
Danny: That is not true.
Michelle: It is.
Danny: No, it's not.
Michelle: You don't think that anyone can handle your business as well as you can.
Danny: You don't know what you're...you really don't know what you're talking about. (Diggin' yourself a hole here...) I--
Michelle: Ever since you were a child, your mother has been grooming you to stand next to her. I mean, Hell, she's been expecting you--
Danny: And I've resisted her, haven't I!? (Haha, NO!)
Michelle: No.
Danny: Haven't I?
Michelle: You haven't! You've been in control every single time you've had to be. Can you please just admit that there's a part of you that won't let go, that can't? You owe me that much, just admit--
Danny: Fine, fine! What do you want from me? I admit it. Are you happy? I can't walk away, Michelle. I can't.
Scene 3: Bauer Kitchen
Danny: Well, congratulations. You finally got me to admit what you've been trying to obviously get me to admit for months now. That I'm committed to my family. What else do you want me to say?
Michelle: When i agreed to be with you, I thought that we were both fighting for a life that we promised each other, and apparently, that's not going to happen. (Starts to walk away.)
Danny: Michelle!
Michelle: (Stops and turns around.) What?
Danny: I have never given up on you and I don't plan on giving up on you. But...I can't predict the future. I can't. You know that I love you. You're my wife and I can't live without you. You know that, don't you? And I think that you can't live without me in your life, either. (Waits for her to say something. She doesn't. He throws his arms up in the air and leaves Michelle standing in the kitchen. She starts crying.)
