Scene 1: Bauer Cabin
(Danny, Michelle, Drew *really big ick*, and Jesse *smaller ick* walk into the Bauer cabin with luggage, fishing stuff, etc, etc, etc.)
Drew: This is...this is rustic. (I kind of thought it was rather nice for a cabin.)
Danny: This is nice. It's really...it's nice. (See? Danny thought so, too.)
Michelle: I haven't been here since my mom died. This was my favorite place as a kid, you know that?
Drew: Yeah, well, I just hope there's no forrest creatures around. I don't like anything furry. Unless it's a mink on a hanger. (Well, you've got this animal rights activist in a rage. Good going!)
Michelle: (Laughs.)
Danny: Alright. Out of my way, city girl. (Messes with some fishing gear.) I'm going to go see if the fish are biting. (Somehow, I didn't think of Danny as a fisherman...)
Jesse: (Chuckles.) Yeah. You fish?
Danny: (Not seeing the humor in that.) Yeah, what's so funny about that?
Jesse: Nothing funny. (I think that's what he said. Closed captioning didn't pick it up, so I took a wild guess.) Settle down, country boy. You know, maybe I'll just grab my sketch pad and I'll go join you.
Drew: Hey, listen. I don't mean to bring you guys down, but we are here to discuss our partnership at Millenium, right? We're going to sit down, and we're going to outline some goals. We're going to create a mission statement.
Jesse: Whoa, what's to say that we can't talk about it while we're fishing? (Hold up, I thought you were going to draw, not fish. This is getting confuzzing already...)
Michelle: What, you guys think you're going to catch some dinner?
Danny: Yeah.
Drew: What, you're going to eat fish from a lake?
Michelle: Well, yeah.
Danny: No, I thought we'd just keep them for pets. (Hey, I'm all for that!)
Drew: You don't know what those fish have digested, okay? But have no fear.
Danny: Worms. Worms. (Jesse laughs.)
Drew: I am here.
Jesse: (Pulling stuff out of a bag.) Oh, what, with New York bagels, pad Thai (?), you know...
Drew: That's right, emergency supplies.
Jesse: Well, you know, you really bring a new definition to the word "roughing it." (I suppose I could be wrong, but last time I checked, "roughing it" was 2 words. I think the word "term" would've worked better there.)
Michelle: (Danny comes up behind Michelle, who is looking at the window, and wraps his arms around her.) Hi.
Danny: Hi.
Michelle: You know, after everything that's happened, I really never thought that I'd start to feel this way again.
Danny: How's that? (Kisses her on her temple.)
Michelle: Hopeful. Really hopeful.
Scene 2: Outside the Bauer Cabin
Danny: I'll get the rest of the luggage, if you'll get the fishing gear out of the trunk.
Jesse: Listen, listen, could I talk to you for a minute?
Danny: Yeah.
Jesse: Look, there's just some things that I kind of want to lay out on the table before we get into all of this, you know?
Danny: Okay.
Jesse: I'm...I'm...you know, I'm concerned a little bit about this whole thing that we're starting to do together, okay? And it's more for Drew, you know, she's like kind of my first priority in this. Have any of the families contacted you?
Danny: No.
Jesse: No? (Yes.)
Danny: No. (Come on, one more time just for good measure!)
Jesse: Okay, I know what you said....what you read when your mother wrote that letter, you know, and it stated that you had a lot of things against these people, right?
Danny: Yeah. Right.
Jesse: Well, they just let it go like that?
Danny: Nobody's contacted me. Yeah.
Jesse: Well, but they will, right?
Danny: I don't--look, I don't know what you want me to say. They backed off. They--they know that I can put them away.
Jesse: Well, what's to say that they're not going to try to put you away first? (Why, oh why, is Jesse starting to make sense???)
Danny: Because if anything happens to me, or Michelle, or my family, then my mother's letter goes public. They're not going to take that kind of risk.
Jesse: Yeah, yeah. It's just what I've learned about the crime industry is once you're in, you're in for life, Danny. (Okay, so Jesse's been watching "The Sopranos" for too long. Good show, though.)
Danny: I think you watch too much TV. It's over. My mother's letter was like a ticket to freedom.
Scene 3: Bauer Cabin
(Drew whacks Michelle on the back with a rolled up magazine. What I wouldn't give to whack *Drew* with a baseball bat--er, magazine...)
Michelle: Hey!
Drew: It's a mosquito. It's biting you. Did you find that repellent yet?
Michelle: No. It's probably at the bottom of one of these bags. Listen, thank you so much again. I mean, again and again, but for allowing Danny the opportunity to join you guys in the club. It's just great.
Drew: Hey, I--I want him there, okay? (Yeah, I'm sure you do.) I want you both there. If you want to do it before you go back to school... (You mean she's actually going back to school? Wow.)
Michelle: Yeah.
Drew: Jesse and I need a break.
Michelle: Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. I definitely could use a little distraction from, uh...Carmen.
Drew: Carmen?
Michelle: Get my mind off of her...
Drew: Carmen is dead, Michelle. (I don't know, I have a sneaking suspicion that it was all a set-up.)
Michelle: Yeah.
Drew: Put her out of your mind.
Michelle: Well, unfortunately, Drew, it's not that easy.
Drew: Well, why don't you look at the bright side?
Michelle: I didn't think there was one.
Drew: There is one. Because she died, you guys have that list of indictments on the other families, which means you're not a target anymore. You're not.
Michelle: No, no it's not that. Uhm...
Drew: What is it?
Michelle: This is going to sound so crazy, Drew.
Drew: So sound crazy. (Yeah, Michelle, be like Drew.)
Michelle: Carmen's not out of my life. Not by a long shot.
Scene 4: Bauer Cabin
Drew: Hey, come on, you can talk to me. If anyone's crazy, I'm crazy, right? (A HUGE, RESOUNDING YES!!!!!!)
Michelle: Drew, I woke up in a cold sweat the other night. And Carmen was there. I could see her face, I could smell her perfume, (Voice starts to crack.) and she was holding my baby.
Drew: Michelle...
Michelle: She was laughing at me. It's like...it's she's reaching out to me from the grave or something. (Don't you mean from the urn?)
Drew: Well, she's not. You know that. She's not. She can never hurt you again.
Michelle: You didn't hear what she said to me before she died, did you? She looked at me. (That bitch! How dare she?!) The last thing that she was that she would watch over me and the baby. (Of all the horrible things to say...) And now she's got my baby.
Drew: She does not have your baby. Michelle, God has your baby, okay? And Carmen was headed in the other direction. How could they be together?
Michelle: I don't know.
Drew: Listen to me. You...you--you lost your baby. Okay, you're fragile right now. You're emotional and Carmen dies on your doorstep.
Michelle: I know. I know that.
Drew: So it's like you know that, but you're not dealing with, because another thing could have happened. You know, the bullet could've hit you, and you could've died. And you're not even talking about that.
Michelle: Well, I can't talk about that.
Drew: Right, you can't...you can't. You're not dealing with it, right? And when you don't deal with things, you have nightmares. It is completely natural. It's like aftershock after everything you've been through. (As opposed to aftershock *before* everything you've been through?) Give yourself a break.
Michelle: I don't know how.
Drew: Just, you know, let things happen the way they're gonna happen. You know, ride it out. And if all else fails, you can do what I do when I get stressed. Go and buy yourself a really, really nice pair of expensive shoes. It works for me. (Me, too! It actually does help, lol.)
Michelle: (Laughing.)
Danny: (Enters the room.) I don't believe it.
Michelle: What?
Danny: What? Well, I don't think I've heard you laugh in a long, long time. (They hug.)
Scene 5: Bauer Cabin
(Michelle is making lemonade and Danny comes up from behind and puts his arms around her. Music is playing in the background.)
Michelle: Hi.
Danny: Hi. (Deja vu.) Do you want to dance?
Michelle: Nah, I'm making lemonade. (Screw the lemonade, girl--look at who's asking you to dance!)
Danny: Come on. You want to show these fools how it's done. (Pulls her away from the lemonade.)
Michelle: (Laughing.) Wh--?
Danny: It can wait, it can wait. (They start dancing a few feet away from where Drew and Jesse are dancing.)
Jesse: Alright, guys, this dance is going to make me hungry. (Huh? Hungry?) Why don't we go outside and eat?
Danny: Oh, yeah, let's eat outside. Can we eat outside? (No, it's forbidden.)
Jesse and Danny: (They're both talking at the same time about eating outside and I can't distinguish who's saying what. Anyways, Drew and Jesse stop dancing.)
Danny: Let's eat outside. (99% sure that it was Danny who said that.)
Jesse: Come on. I'm gonig to grab these plates. (Gets a plate and starts to walk outside. Drew is hanging back with an uncomfortable look on her face, like she's debating whether to go outside or not.)
Drew: Food, bugs, outside. Hon...? Okay.
Jesse: Are you coming or what? (Drew relents, grabs the bug spray, and walks to the door.)
Michelle: What, are you going into combat?
Danny: You know, that stuff doesn't work on killer bees.
Drew: (Fear in her voice.) What?
Danny: It doesn't.
Michelle: There's no killer bees.
Danny: How do you know?
Michelle: Because. (To Drew.) Go. (Drew exits, leaving Danny and Michelle alone in the cabin.)
Danny: So...
Michelle: So...
Danny: How you feeling? You feeling okay?
Michelle: Better. Yeah, better than I have in a long time. Thank you for not treating me like an invalid anymore.
Danny: What do you mean? I didn't treat you like...I did not. I just...I just worry about you, that's all.
Michelle: Okay. Well, you can stop. (Pause.) We're going to have other kids. (Hey, just as long as we get to the see the conception!)
Danny: Yeah. We are.
Michelle: Yeah.
Danny: Lots.
Michelle: Yeah. Besides, I got my family, the man I love, and I'm doing a heck of a lot better than most people, right? (No, Michelle, I don't think you are. True, you have Danny, but most people's mother-in-laws don't try to kill them, set them up for murder, and then haunt them when they die.)
Danny: Yeah. Yes, considering that you were there with my mother when she was shot.
Michelle: I don't wanna talk about that.
Danny: Okay. Are you telling me that you don't think about it? At all? Ever? Is that what you're saying?
Michelle: (Trying to change the subject.) You know, Jesse and Drew are probably waiting for the lemonade. I'm going to...
Danny: Honey, I love you. You know how much I love you, right?
Michelle: Mm-hmm. I know, and that's why we've got to just have a normal life, you know? And stop worrying about what's behind us.
Danny: Ah, so you are worying. (Put his hand on her neck.)
Michelle: I'm not worrying! I'm not...no.
Danny: You just admitted that you worried. You did.
Michelle: (Grabbing a fly swatter.) You know, the only thing that I'm worrying about now is this (Hits a fly.) fly. Dead.
Danny: (Looking at the bug on the ground.) Uh, no. Not quite yet. (Steps on it.) Now it is.
Michelle: Not quite yet...
Scene 6: Bauer Cabin
Danny: (Entering the cabin.) Hey!
Michelle: Hey!
Danny: Where's that lemonade, woman?
Michelle: It's coming. Hold your horses.
Danny: The troops are getting restless.
Michelle: Well, I'm doing a little taste test and I want it to be perfect before anyone has some. (Danny grabs the cup and tries to drink the lemonade, but Michelle stops him.)
Danny: I'm sure it's perfect. It's perfect just like you are. (Ooh, somebody's doing some sucking up...)
Michelle: Yeah.
Danny: As you are.
Michelle: You know, right about now, I can pretty much see all of our dreams coming true.
Danny: I agree.
Michelle: Good. (Danny tries to get the cup *again*, but Michelle stops him *again.*) Now go out there and be a good host.
Danny: Oh, come on.
Michelle: And I will bring your lemonade in 2 minutes.
Danny: One minute.
Michelle: Two.
Danny: One. One minute or I'm sending Drew in with the bug spray. (Talk about torture...)
Michelle: Delayed gratification.
Danny: No, I mean it. I mean it. (Goes outside. Michelle tastes the lemonade and then goes to look at herself in the mirror. A look of fear comes over her face and we see Carmen appear behind her in the mirror. Michelle turns around and see's nothing. She drops the glass, and tries not to cry. Good job by Joie--she's really got that "Oh, God, I'm scared shitless" look down.)
