GENERAL LAWS OF MASSACHUSETTS

Chapter 269: Sections 1 to 4, 6 to 8, 10, to 10d

In the examples I have given, I have taken the situation to the "logical silly" or the ridiclous extreme. Sometimes this can be useful in showing a fault in logic.

This is not the only situation where laws like this fall short though. Orginizations that have met legally for years, not only in Massachusetts, but across the country routinely violate these laws. The largest example, that is incorporated in all 50 states, and is established across the globe is the Society for Creative Anacronism. This group meets for the purpose of recreating midieval events, including swordfighting. While they only use swords made out of foam, they could be considered clubs. Therefore they would fall under these laws. The fencers use real eppe's, taps capped. But that is another weapon that would qualify the event as a riot.
