A Message from Pastor Ruth

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

Isaiah 61:1

Freedom is a theme that is all through the scriptures. Mankind has been in bondage since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. When we are disobedient to God or veer off from the lifestyle that He has called us to, we often find ourselves in bondage of one kind or another.

All through scripture we see God coming to the rescue of his people. They would get themselves in trouble and then cry out to God. He would save them, then they would repeat the same thing all over again. Human nature is always in play in our lives and in the lives of others in this world. Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.“

If that is the truth, then we also must face the truth that in order to be free, really free, we need Jesus. It is only through Him and the sacrifice He made on the cross, that we can be saved and released from our own human made prisons and captivities.

We fly the flag on the 4th of July and celebrate our independence and freedom from rule by another country, but are we really free? Are we free from the sin that binds us? Can we celebrate this month the good news that Isaiah proclaimed about Jesus? The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD was on Jesus, because the LORD had anointed Him to proclaim good news to the poor. God sent Jesus to release the prisoners from darkness, and to proclaim freedom to the captives.

This year, as you celebrate America’s freedom, pray and ask Jesus to set you free from all that holds you captive. Those whom Christ sets free are free indeed.

Happy 4th of July, Pastor Ruth
