Morris Automotive Tips

Here are a few tips we think may help owners
keep their Honda in good operating condition.

Oil Changes
The OWNERS MANUAL recommends changing the oil every 7,500 miles. An oil change is the life blood of your engine. To keep your engine at peak performance, the oil should be changed at least every 3,750 miles or every three months. By doing so, you can keep your vehicle on its 7,500 mile service intervals.
Example: 3,750--7,500--11,250--15,000
When we service your Honda at oil change intervals we do a thorough inspection called a 14 Point Inspection. Besides changing the Oil Filter we inspect several items to prevent future problems and more expensive repairs.
Maintenance
Service
Most people never read their OWNERS MANUAL. There is important information about your Honda that you should be aware of. There is a maintenance schedule that lets you know what service should be performed and at the recommended mileage. If you don't have an OWNERS MANUAL, we can supply you with a Maintenance Schedule when you visit us for maintenance and repairs. Since Honda now has a different schedule for every make an model we no longer have a Maintenance Schedule listed on our website.
Checking Fluid
Levels
If you do your own oil changes, then you probably check and fill all your fluid levels. Here is one important fact that most people don't know, including a lot of Quick Lube Technicians. The brake master cylinder reservoir has a level indicator which has a MAX and MIN level line. The level of the fluid in the reservoir is used as a wear indicator for the cars brake pads and shoes. If the level is near the MIN line , then the brakes may be worn out. If you fill the reservoir then you have no way of knowing when the brakes are worn untill you hear a scrubbing noise.

Example
Here is an example of why it is important to keep your Honda serviced regularly.
Customer complaint: Car hard to start at times and poor gas mileage.
Problem: Spark Plugs burned up and Air Filter dirty.
Reason: The vehicle has high  mileage and no services were ever performed.
A TUNE UP should have been done according to vehicle Owners Manual. The money you would have saved in fuel alone would have paid  for a tune up in addition to helping our environment. This is called "Preventive Maintenance".
Timing Belt
The Timing Belt is a rubber and fiber composite belt that connects the upper part of the engine to the lower part of the engine. HONDA MANUFACTURE  recommends replacement of this belt on most of their vehicles every  90,000 miles {105,000 on some newer models} or every 6 years. Failure to replace this belt can result in expensive repairs if the belt breaks.
