Characters
Ensign Lucas Wolenczak
Lucas Wolenczak is the seaQuest's resident teenage genius. He likes to hack into secure databases and blast loud music, generally rigging havoc. He invented Darwin's vocorder that allows him to speak. The great thing about Lucas is not just his great looks, but the fun and teenage ego he ads to the show.
Biography: Jonathan Brandis
Jonathan Brandis plays a young techno-wiz, Lucas Wolenczak on "seaQuest". An early starter - first as a 2-year-old print model in New York City, and later as a writer of one of his adventure series' Sweeps episodes before he was even 19. Born an only child on an April 13 in Danbury, CT, Brandis would make the 60-mile trek with his parents from their Connecticut home to New York so that he could appear in television commercials, which led to a six-month recurring role on the daytime drama "One Life to Live" when he was 6 years old. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 1986, Brandis won roles in a variety of television series, movies and mini-series. His first serious dramatic role was in the 1987 mini-series "Poor Liftle Rich Girl." He later became widely recognized for his work as the chronic sufferer in the mini-series "Stephen King's 'It."' Brandis starred opposite Chuck Norris in the 1993 feature film "Sidekicks" and had lead roles in "The Never Ending Story II" and "Ladybugs." He also appeared in "The Wrong Guys" and "Stepfather II."
He gave an engrossing portrayal of director-choreographer Bob Fosse in the latter's autobiographical film All That Jazz (1979). Scheider was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actor for that performance and as Best Supporting Actor for his role in The French Connection (1971). Later, in 1980, he received the Drama League Critic's Award for Performance of the Year for his work in "Betrayal." His usually tough screen characterizations have benefited from a broken nose, a la Belmondo, that he sustained in Golden Gloves boxing preliminaries during his high school days. His other features include "The Seven Ups," "Marathon Man, "Sorcerer," "Jaws II," "Blue Thunder," "2010," "The Men's Club," "52-Pick-Up" and more recently "Night Games," "The Russia House," David Cronenberg's "Naked Lunch" and "Romeo is Bleeding."
His additional television credits include guest-starring appearances on "L.A. Law," "Murder, She Wrote," "Gabriel's Fire," "Blossom," "Who's the Boss?", "Full House," "The Flash," "Pros & Cons," "Webster," "Alien Nation" and "The Munsters Today." In 1995, Brandis co-hosted the NBC special "Masters of Illusion: The Wizards of Special Effects." He starred in the Family Channel movie "Good King Wenceslas" last year, and he provides the voice of an evil wizard in the animated television series "Disney's Aladdin."
Active in a variety of charities, Brandis lends support to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Starlight Foundation and Famous Fone Friends. Brandis was recently graduated from high school and was named in "Who's Who Among American High School Students." He lives in Los Angeles and enjoys driving and playing billiards and basketball in his spare time.
