"Come on now, you don't expect the Backstreet Boys to ride around in anything less than this do you?" Brian knitted his brows together and gave me goofy looking "genuine" face.
He was adorable
Brian opened the door and motioned grandly "ladies first."
"Why thank you!" I accepted the hand he offered me and pretended I was entering a coach.
"He's probably in here somewhere, Selena."
He lead me past a semi-messy kitchen and into the back of the bus. There were six bunks--each with a curtain
"I imagine that Nicky is in one of these," said Brian. "You take the right and I'll take the left."
We proceeded to push back all of the curtains. I was checking out the last top bunk when I felt someone reach out and grab my knee. Since I am someone that is easily startled, you can guess what happened next. I let out an ear piercing scream that left Brian and Nick stunned to the very core.
I sank to the floor laughing "you, you..." I sputtered.
"Scared the Hell out of you?" Nick inquired looking down at me. "I'm a starvin' Marvin!"
Brian offered me his hand.
I jumped up "Nick you watch South Park too?" I asked.
"Yeah I love it, " he called back.
I hated that show. I found it to be degrading, but I didn't say anything.
"Me on the other hand," said Brian in a false apologetic tone, "I can't stand it!"
I told him that I had to agree.
Nick's blonde mane was hidden in the mini-refrigerator "man there's nothin' here." He plopped onto the love seat opposite the kitchenette and ran his hands through his locks.
"Selena, where is the nearest Micky D's?"
An hour later the trio arrived back at van, and found Mrs. McLean and the rest of the gang hanging out.
"You guys," Brian announced "anyone feel like a Big Mac meal?"
Jane eyed Nick suspiciously "so Nick are you feeling like..."
"One hundred percent better Mom. I was wrong you were right." He held up his hands in mock surrender.
"Hon that's what you say now, but come time you sign anymore autographs you're gonna pull this again."
"I don't know. I'm already sick of everyone knowing all aspects of my life. I can't even go to McDonalds without getting mobbed!" He said.
"Well you guys it's been real, it's been fun." I said.
"And it's been real fun," added Cate.
"But we gotta jet," I said. I threw a concerned look at Nick.
"I seem to remember a certain someone who promised to show me something this evening," he said casually.
I looked at him, genuinely puzzled. I vaguely remembered promising him something to get him to go back to the activities center.
He caught the look of confusion upon my face and explained: "your 'special' place...remember?"
"Yeah Selen, your SPECIAL place. Woo hoo!" hooted Howie.
Nick was grinning wickedly at me.
Oops! I had forgotten about that. Actually my "special" place was none other than a nice tranquil bank that overlooked the Wipawomsett River. I went there to clear my head, study, or just to have some time by myself. I wasn't at all sure if I wanted to show it to him anymore. It was my private place, and after all I didn't know him very well. Besides, it was kinda romantic and I didn't want him getting the wrong impression.
I caught Cate giving me a curious look, but Brian's eyes were boring into me.
"Selen, you never told me about this!" Cate retorted. She seemed slightly insulted.
This must have given Nick the wrong impression judging by the look of satisfaction he had on his face.
"So I see...I was your first..." he joked pretending to eye me knowingly.
"Nick don't even joke about things like that. Things do have a tendency to get out there!" Denise said, refering to the media.
Nick smirked and waved his hand around the trailer "who here is going to say anything?"
Denise and Jane both eyed me with "you never know" looks.
Brian pretended to be deeply insulted. His jaw dropped and he gently covered my ears. "We can't be treating our guests like they're outsiders, now can we? We wanna make them feel right at home.
I giggled "I promise you Jane, you have nothing to worry about. You're forgetting who the biggest fan in this room is!" I joked.
"That's our girl!" AJ said patting me on the head.
"Selena, come on I wanna check out the campus here. Give me a tour!" Nick whined.
"Sherlock, what exactly do you expect to see in the pitch darnkess?" asked Brian.
"I'm just sick of sitting around in frigging 3X5 plastic walls that's all!" Nick grabbed my arm and dragged me outside.
The last thing I saw was Howie waving good-bye "don't stay out too late kiddies!" he joked.
I heard Kevin call out "you need your sleep Nick, don't be out too late!"
