Chapter 17

I was woken up by the sun streaming in my eyes. I gasped when I realized that I had been cuddling with none other than Brian Littrell. I had never spent the night with a guy before. At least not until now I hadan't. I gently shook Brian.

"Not now Nick, my alarm will go off later," he mumbled.

"Well, consider this to be your alarm clock," I said. "You're not even home!"

That certainly got his attention. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Wow, I can't believe that I slept on this thing."

"Well believe it," I muttered under my breath. I had some major explaining to do to Candy and I wasn't really in the mood for any sort of chit chat. I glanced at my watch. Since it was only seven 'o' clock, we still had plenty of time before we needed to meet at the Backstreet Market for our next video shoot.

"Want to come in for some instant coffee or something?" I invited.

"Sounds good. But if we get room service you can forward the bill to my managment."

I raised my eyebrow. "Candy and I are going to have a PARTY tonight. What do you think your managment feels about chipendales?" I joked.

Before I could even set foot in my room Candy's head popped out. "Oh, you're here. I was just going to wake you. I passed you naughty children in the lounge last night."

I could tell she was desperatly trying not to giggle.

Kevin stepped out of the bathroom looking like he had just woken up.

"And uh, speaking of naughty why is cuz here?" Brian asked looking at Kevin.

Candy turned beet red "Uh, Kevin had a little too much Absolut Vodka at Howie's place last night. I wouldn't let him go home."

"Why didn't Howie bring you home?" I asked.

"Well, Howie was a little uh..." began Kevin.

"Howie had even more than Kevin," Candy finished. "Anyway, guys. Nick just called asking for you Selena. He got another note this morning. This time it had been slid under the door. He should be here any--'

There was a knock on the ajar door. Without bothering to wait for a response Nick let himself in the room. He was white-faced and the circles under his eyes were very pronounced.

"Another one man," he said crisply. He tossed the note onto my bed.

If you want that pretty face intact then I wouldn't go to work today.
It was the same picture of Nick. This time the face was computer generated. It was grotesquely out of shape. One eye was missing and the mouth had been replaced with a morbid looking mouth stapled together.

I picked up the letter and look at is closer. As I did I got a whiff of a familiar fragrance.

"You guys, smell this. What is that odor?"

One by one everyone leaned in.

"Hey, I think it's..." Candy leaned closer to the letter. "Yeah! It's CK One."

Everyone agreed.

"Well I guess we need to comg the set for people who wear CK One." I said with doubt. It was a pretty popular fragrance. And it was unisex too.

"You're gonna find a lot of people," said Kevin. "I wear that stuff sometimes.

Brian looked at me. We were both thinking the same thing. We needed to hot foot it on over to Justin and see what he was wearing for cologne these days.

"Now don't go jumping to conclusions!" I said. I had just finished telling Nick about Justin had recently demoted himself into working behind the scenes instead of onstage.

In the few short weeks I had known Nick, I had never seen him so filled with fury.

"It HAS to be him. That pansy ass has been jealous of me for years. And he should be. I mean I'm better looking, I have better hair, I sing better, I can danc--"

"ok, ok. So you're better than him," I rolled my eyes. "And more egotistical," I silently added.

Nick openly flinched at my indifferent behavior. What did he expect out of me? Him telling me how awesome he was at everything wasn't helping anyone.

I sighed and eyed Justin off in the distance as he prepared the afternoon snack table.

I shifted uncomfortably in my outfit. I noticed Nick looking at an area that I was particularly uncomfortable with him looking at so I crossed my arms. I was wearing baggy JNCO jeans and a yellow sports bra. That was it.

"Selena, do you..." Nick pushed his hair out of his face. "Do you want to try...goingoutagain?" he continued rapidly.

"I patted his hand. Why not? Let's have another stab at it shall we?"

Maybe I could prevent anything else from happening to him. Though the way things were moving, I doubted if the culprit even cared if I went went down with Nick.
