Chapter 15

I was walking through a grassy meadow. Brian was holding my hand.

"Come on Selena. Please wake up. I never got to tell you how I really felt," he said.

I looked at him oddly "I'm awake! I'm standing next to you!" I said.

He appeared to ignore me "you need to get better."

Then Candy was there "I don't know you too well. The doctors told me that you might never wake up. But, you seem strong. Fight it Selena!"

The Nick layed his head on my shoulder, "This should be me and not you! It's not fair. I'm so sorry..."

I patted his head "it's ok. I'm fine."

I opened my eyes and realized that I what appeared to be a hospital emergency room. Nick was sitting next to me, clasping my left hand in between his two hands.

"Wha--? Oh my God! OH MY GOD!" His teary eyes were now full of joy. He jumped up in glee. And darted out of the room. A moment later a small group of people entered the room. Candy, Kevin, and Brian.

"God," said Brian, tugging at one of my braids. "You sure gave us a scare there."

Inhaling deeply I looked around the room. I didn't know any of these people two weeks ago. Which made waking up in a hospital room all the more erie.

"OK," I muttered. Oh God! My throat was killing me. And I had a terrible stomache cramp. Not to mention a headache to end all headaches. "I remember being really dizzy. And then I ran to you," I pointed to Brian. "I don't remember what happened next. I must have blacked out from exhaustion."

I noticed everyone exchange worried glances.

Nick took a hold of my hand again "Um...you know that water container I gave you...well...Man! It's all my fault!" He darted out of the room.

I looked at Kevin for explanation.

"Nick was trying to say that there was Sianide in the water you drank. The hospital had to pump your stomach," Kevin said gently.

Well I guess that explained why I felt like complete shit.

Candy and Brian looked gravely at the floor.

What was I supposed to say? Nick was the one who was supposed to have drank that water, and they all knew it. It was clear someone wanted Nick out of the picture. Who was I to bitch about a sore throat and a few cramps? I felt extremly homesick. All I wabted was my mom and Cate. Then I knew I would feel better. I tried suppressing a sob but it ended up sounding more like a snort.

Brian put his arm around me "please don't cry," and Kevin patted my head.

I didn't feel like being comforted by strangers right now.

"You guys, please. I need to be alone." I cried out hoarsly.

"But the doctor said that you could be discharged as soon as you woke--" began Candy.

"I need to be alone!" I interupted.

When I was finally alone, I threw my face into a pillow a cried. When I thought about how mean I was to everyone I cried even harder. I could barely breathe through my sinuses by the time I had cried enough. It wasn't until forty-five minutes later that I finally fell into a fitful sleep.

When I awoke again, it was dark outside. I reached for the nurses's call button so that I could be discharged.

In the cab on the way back to the hotelI thought over all of the incidents that had happened in the past couple of days. Damn! I was going to ask around this afternoon about any suspisious behavior or sightings. Tomorrow was the last day of the shooting, and I was going to go home the day after that, so I needed to find some answers real fast if I was going to get to the bottom of this. I wouldn't feel right about going home knowing that someone was trying kill Nick. I was convinced that not only did this person know Nick, but they were either a good friend of his, or someone who had made a special effort to learn a few odds and ends about him.

I leaned my head against the window. Iy would be so much easier if I had more to go by. The cab pulled in front of the hotel.

"Thank you," I paid the cabbie. Stepping into the lobby, I spotted Lance headed towards me. There was some guy that I didn't recognize with him.

Lance pointed to me "hey, what's up?"

"Hi Lance," I made every effort to be cheerful. I wasn't in the mood to explain any of the many events that had unfolded that day.

"I know you!" said the guy with him.

I looked closer, seeing if I could put a name with the face. I was positive that I had never seen him before. He has black curly hair and a five 'o' clock shadow.

"I'm sorry...I think you're mist--"

"You're the chick that dances with Prick Carter."

"Excuse me?" I had to have heard him wrong. "You dance with Nick in the video 'Move with Me.' " He extended his hand. "Justin Timberlake. I work on the set of the video you're dancing in."
