09/10/93 Pilot: ‘The Adventure Begins’

Shipper moments: Well, the first episode is a little early to start counting the shipper moments, but I can’t very well leave out the wonderful bathrobe scene! Scully sheds her clothes (mostly), and the look on Mulder’s face is priceless! After giving him a hug (surprising, to him), they talk for (presumably) hours about his life, with her lying on his bed. Swoon.

 Review: *****

Well no wonder this show got started! This is a classic x-files episode, and a wonderful way to start off the series. The plot is well developed, and the character deveopment is begun. The episode is nicely scary, and has some good interaction between M and S involving trust.

09/17/93 Deep Throat: ‘A Mulbotomy!’

Shipper moments: Well, there aren’t many in this script, but Scully does get appropriately worried about Mulder’s dissapearance. This is kind of a shipper-lite episode. (if I’m missing anything, please write to tell me.)

 Review: *****

Very good second episode, Mr. Carter! Another classic x-file, conspiracy/alien episode. Good dialogue between the characters. All around tight episode. A very good way to continue with the show’s first season.

Best quote: “Did you see their eyes, Mulder? If I were that stoned. . .”

“Whoa, If you were that stoned, what?”

09/24/93 Squeeze: ‘Scully loses yet another piece of her former life’

Shipper moments: The humble beginnings of shipperdom hum quietly to life. Mulder acts all alpha-male-territorial over Scully, halts her by gently tugging at her necklace (not the cross, by the way), and Scully becomes Mrs. Spooky.

 Review: *****

The first MOTW, and I think it could be the best. (With some exceptions, Pusher maybe, or Bad Blood, or PMP). Not only is it perfectly scary, the show’s ultimate goal, but it also has some nice character revelations and interactions. You can see the relationship between M and S grow.

10/01/93 Conduit: ‘ (pic)

Shipper moments: Not Shipper per se, but there are some good Mulder/Scully interactions in this ep, his ‘okobogee’ line in which he leans in very close to her, and their confrontations about his sister. I think that Scully sees Mulder’s inner self for the first time in this ep.

 Review: ****

This episode marks the beginning of MulderTorture, and the first time we see Mulder cry. I’m particulary a fan of the last scene, in which we are shown Mulder’s human side when he’s kneeling in a chuch, holding a photo of his sister. This episode also begins in earnest the storyline involving Mulder’s sister (a storyline which reached its zenith in the Closure episodes). I also like the tension between Mulder and Scully, when she confronts him about taking the case personally. All-in-all a good mythology, Mulder-centric but not Scully-exclusive ep.

Best quote: "You know when I was a kid, I had this ritual. I closed  my eyes before I walked into my room, because I thought that one day when I opened them my sister would be there. Just lying in bed, like nothing ever happened. You know I`m still walking into that room, every day of my life."

10/08/93 The Jersey Devil: ‘Whoa. Mulder likes the cave-woman. . .’ (no pic)

Shipper moments: Scully’s friend reveals that Scully has said that Mulder’s cute! Unfortunately, after that Scully calls Mulder a jerk, and then ammends that to someone ‘obsessed with his work.’ Well, we take what we can get. . .

 Review: **

Well, not exactly as interesting an X-File as it is an interesting Mulder/Scully interaction ep, which it is. I think the early buds of a relationship forming are the things that really keep these not-so-great episodes from sinking. Plus, Mulder really IS cute!

 Sound files:

Best quote: “Keep that up Mulder and I`ll hurt you like that beast woman.”

Ok. I really didn’t care much for this eipisode. It had a solid x-file, but not much else. There wasn’t enough interaction between Mulder, Scully, and the main characters to make their dilemma interesting.

 Sound files:

Best quote: Mulder: “Hey, Scully. Do you believe in the afterlife?”

Scully: “I`d settle for a life in this one.”

 Shipper moments:

Not much here. Too many plot incongruities, and not enough character development. Plus, Mulder and Scully don’t interact enough. If you don’t have that, at least have a solid X-File.

 Sound files:

Best quote: Scully: “So, why did you two go your separate ways?”

Mulder: “I`m a pain in the ass to work with.”

      Scully: “No, seriously.”

Mulder: “You mean I`m NOT a pain in the ass to work with?”

11/05/93 Ice: ‘Now we gotta de-worm Mulder. We never shoulda left D.C’

Shipper moments: Well, I don’t know why, but I really enjoy the scene where Scully ‘examines’ Mulder’s neck and vice-versa. It’s something about the attitude. . .hmm.

 Review: *****

Love this episode! The X-File is really interesting, and also just enough scary, and I’m really liking the wierd cabin-fever disease. It sorta reminds me of The Thing, for those of you who have seen it, it has the same isolated atmosphere. Its a nice MOTW, in the truly hard-core MOTW tradition.

Best quote: Mulder: “I don`t trust them. I wanted to trust you.”

   Mulder: “What`s a girl?”

12/17/93 Fire: ‘Mulder has nice taste in undergarments’ (pic)

Shipper moments: I know, I know. We all hate this episode. We all hate to see Mulder giving his lovin’ feelin’ to some little brown-haired british something-or-other. But two things: Number 1: He looks great in a tuxedo, and NOT in a tuxedo (if you get my drift). And Number 2: Great Scully-jealousy here. I love her little false-cheer waves and comments. Also, the look on her face when she catches Mulder kissing Phoebe is priceless.

 Review: ****

Well, of all the season 1 episodes, this is honestly the one I look foreward to the most. It was yummy Scully jealousy (which makes for the best plotlines), Mulder in black silk boxers, and lots of double entendres. Phew. Also, just a thought, doesn’t it look like fun to kiss Mulder? Well, we can ask Scully. I’m sure she knows.

 Sound files:

Best quote: Mulder: "Oh, I was merely extending her a professional courtesy."

Scully: "Oh, is that what you were extending?"

01/07/94 Beyond the Sea (pic)

Shipper moments: He calls her Dana! She’s very protective towards him! She threatens to kill Boggs if Mulder dies! That’s shippy! (see what we die-hard shippers have to resort to.)

 Review: *****

I thought that Gillian Anderson’s preformance in this episode was breathtaking. The emotion and feeling running through this entire story makes it one of my favorites ever. It was a solid X-File with beautifully explored character background. I also think that the Mulder/ Scully bond grows stronger.

 Sound files:

Best quote: Mulder: "Dana. After all you’ve seen, after all the evidence, why can’t you believe?"

Scully: "I’m afraid. I’m afraid to believe."

Mulder: "You couldn’t face that fear? Even if it meant never knowing what your father wanted to tell you?"

  Scully: "But I do know."

  Mulder: "How?"

  Scully: "He was my father."

I always look foreward to this episode for some strange reason. It is just very nicely put together, and it has some nice Mulder angst in it. I love that Mulder angst. Mmm mmm. Really its just a good example of a solid no-frills X-File. Hearty meat ‘n’ potatoes fare, and all of that.

 Sound files:

Best quote: Scully: "Mulder, I know what you did wasn`t by the book."

Mulder: "Tells you something about the book, doesn`t it?"

Yay! The Lone Gunman! Finally! (Yeah, I’m a retrospective X-Phile. I started watching in the 3rd season. I think that Musings was my first episode, tho. What a way to start. :)) I’m nuts for the TLG episodes, because I think that on the whole they are just great, quirky, well-developed supporting characters. It’s also just a good episode all around. Good scripting, good plot, good X-File, good mythology ep. Another one of my favs.

 Sound files:

Best quote: “Scully: "These were the most paranoid people I have ever met. I don`t know how you could think that what they say is even remotely plausible."

Mulder: "I think it`s remotely plausible that someone might think you`re hot."

This is another episode that I look foreward to, though I’m not sure what the attraction is. I just really enjoy the plot, and the bugs are mighty scary. (This is coming from an arachnaphobic, remember. Those cocoons nearly killed me.) I like Mulder’s tenderness at the end, too. Good development.

 Sound files:

Best quote: Mulder: "And I told her it would be a nice trip to the forest."

Shipper moments: Oh, its love anyway. Don’t you worry. Gotta love that scene! And it wouldn make an interesting fanfic that explores what wouldv’e happened if it really WAS iced-tea.

 Review: ****

Yay! The great disgusting Eugene is back! And it could be love!

 Sound files:

Best quote: Mulder: "If there`s iced tea in that bag, could be love."

Scully: "Must be fate, Mulder. .. root beer."
