The Macedonian Question ?

Macedonia - The Introduction

Many of the people reading these pages might not even know where Macedonia is, if you do not, the map below shows the geographic location of Macedonia and the surrounding region. You can clearly see that Makedonia, which is the Greek name for Macedonia, is in Northen Greece, but the ancient Macedonian land covered a bigger area of land.

This part of Greece that is known as Makedonia, is 51.57% of the ancient Macedonian land, the rest being divided between F.Y.R.O.M. (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and Bulgaria.

The table below shows clearly how the land of Ancient Macedonia is divided today between the three countries:

Greek Macedonia : 34,603 kM2 or 51.57%
Yugoslavian Macedonia : 25,714 kM2 or 38.32%
Bulgarian Macedonia : 6,789 kM2 or 10.11%

Now that we have identified where exactly is Macedonia, geographically, we move on to identify the 'problem'. The 'problem' is simple, F.Y.R.O.M. claims, as the name suggests (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) that they are Macedonians, that finally after thousands of years they have been liberated and that Ancient Macedonians were their ancestors.

Is it like that? Are these claims right or wrong? Is there a nation called Macedonians? Is there a country that should be named Macedonia?

In these pages we will answer all these questions and more.
