From South Bend Indianna, Simon Diamond is "A blue chip, white collar all-American athlete".

Patrick Kinney AKA Simon Diamond came to ECW around May 1999, and almost immediately presented himself as a comedy act. Originally, he wasn't called 'Simon' Diamond, but Tommy Dreamer noticed that his style was very similar to that of Dean Malenko. So Diamond took Dean's real first name 'Simon', and Simon Diamond was born.
Simon's real life partner known as Dawn Marie Bytch was already in ECW and helped to ease in the newcomer, despite being the on screen partner of Lance Storm.

Simon and Swinger
Exactly 1 year after his arrival in ECW, Simon was getting frustrated of being thought of as a comedy act and so decided to take on a partner for tag-team competition. As he stood in the toilets moaning about the lack of decent would-be partners, Swinger emerged from a cubicle and informed Simon that the 'problem was solved'. Simon was everything Swinger needed and they complemented each other. Swinger could take the knocks and give as good as he takes, and Simon had the mat skills and amazing countering abilities. In June, they began their long feud with Roadkill and Doring, a feud that would lead to swinger's first PPV, Heatwave 2000. Together they created the finishing move - the Problem Solver, a double team procedure to complement Simon's own finisher, the Simoniser. In August, Simon and Swinger took part in ECWs Tag tournament, where they beat Nova and Chetti, but were knocked out by Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck. C.W Anderson and then Simon's real life fiance Dawn Marie joined Swinger and Simon, creating an even more dangerous team. Around this time Swinger broke his orbital bne and was off for 3 or so week. A feud with York and Matthews followed. York and Matthews, managed by CWs rival Tommy Dreamer finally drafted the Dudley Boyz in late 2000 to take care of Simon and Swinger after Joey Matthews arm was injured.
