Rant!
I am surrounded by band nerds (school stereotype) in english class who don't like me cuz all i do is sleep in that class and still do better than they do. I ace tests but end up failing for the six weeks because I don't do any homework or any major projects (which usually require glue, artistic ability, or a psychological breakdown of a character in a shitty novel). I contribute my good test scores to two things. First, I retain the information the old lady tells us...and remember it the first time it's told to me. Secondly, I like to think subliminally I learn it again. Anyways, these people are the people who make straight A's on their report card because they study endlessly until it's stored in their brain for temporary reference...the same way computer memory works. These morons don't learn shit, they have just adapted to a system and abide by it. I would like to think the reason I don't do any homework or projects is because I'm rebelling against the sickening display of educational slavery (it's midnight, that may not make sense tomorrow) that the school system provides for us, but when it all comes down to it, I'm a lazy bastard that does just enough to get by in life. Don't get me wrong, I do what's absolutely necessary, but I'm not gonna stay up at night finishing mindless worksheets so I can get that extra boost in a numerical grade given to me by a middle-aged bigot, who had plans to become someone of importance but failed miserably and had taken up teaching because it's easy and it pays the bills... although they make little money. That's not how it should be, and I refuse to abide by the bullshit. And the people who made the way things are now are the same people who fought in one of the World Wars or are old enough to remember when buying a loaf of bread meant you had to give the man one of your chickens! They have little working knowledge of how fucked up their standardized way of doing things really is. Every kid I know will jump on the chance to temporarily memorize a useless fact (and sadly, sometimes something that really is worthwhile to learn) in order to pass a test. I don't think many people understand what a test is. To me, a test is a final evaluation of just how much you have learned about any given topic. Teachers in my school often give a 10-35 minute study time in order for the kids to do better. In the long run, this hurts everybody. Sure, the teachers look like they're doing their job by showing the Superintendent their classes superb grades, but these teachers are molding the brains of future businessmen, stockholders, presidents, CEO's, doctors, and bowling alley managers who have a good time by drinking paint thinner on the weekends. The school teaches nothing but how to synically manipulate the system. But maybe that's what is needed. Maybe that's what the real world is all about. All I know, is that I got bitched at for making a 50 on my report card in English. I chose not to manipulate the system. But, I also chose not to coem to class all but 5 days that whole six-weeks. I'm sure I had more to say, but I've lost the motivation...time for more Pepsi.
