The Normal Foot
The
foot is a wonderful creation with many complex motions. The main job
is to provide support to your entire body while walking or standing.
The average foot has about 26 bones, over 100 ligaments, many tendons
and muscles and approximately 32 joints. In addition the foot is divided
into compartments by a sinewy material called fascia. This set up is
good to help the foot be flexible and move in different planes at the
same time, in other words, to accommodate motion throughout the gait
cycle. The foot withstands many pounds of pressure over your lifetime.
That is precisely why we need to care for our feet by providing them
with proper shoe wear and support. This will help them last a lifetime.
You do not need to have a specific foot problem to enjoy the benefits
of a custom built shoe or orthotic. If you want to provide the best
comfort and support for your feet with regular shoes or sandals then
consider custom orthotics. We walk thousands of miles on our feet in
a lifetime with overuse and abuse often a close companion.
