Now the "little Red Schoolhouse" theme occurs to me to totally lighten up the presentation/activity. I am certainly NOT an advocate of the index card method of organization as I see that the only purpose it serves is to teach younger writers how to organize and keep track of where they collected their data and quotes from.
Elisabeth is correct and the Donald Murray method is good enough: just print out all the text, cut it up into individual paragraphs, lay them out on a big table and shove them around to see different methods of organization. As more experienced writers, the index card method is just a waste of time and an extra expense.
Regardless of my own opinion of what I am presenting, my job right now is to remove as much of the darkness in the presentation/activity because of the "death penalty" argument. This is where I came up with the idea of the portable presentation/activity kit and going from grade school to grade school promoting the index card method of organization. Of course a different argument paper would have to be used but the basic method of presenting remains the same.
During this siting, this is where I get the idea of the "feel good" sticker rewards, so I run down to Wal-mart to get some kind of stickers for the purpose of "rewards." I get lucky and there is a pack that has all kinds of stickers with the theme of the "Little Red Schoolhouse so this package also fuels the theme and title for the presentation/activity.
