Understanding the Game

Tennis is a game with rackets and the player (single) or couples (pairs) compete against each other. The game is played in a court divided by a net. The goal is making the ball cross over the net, fall on the opponent's field and be batted back. The courts floor can be grass, gravel (clay + sand) or a synthetic floor. The match is scored with games and sets. In each game the player begins with zero. His/her first score is 15, the second adds 15 (making 30) and the third adds 10 (scoring 40). Forth scores the end of the game. The first player to score 6 games wins the set. But if each player score five games, the match goes on until one of them is two games ahead.

When men are playing, the game is over with a maximum of five sets. With women, three sets. On men matches the game is over when one of the players wins three sets, and on women matches when one of them wins two sets. The "tie-break" usage is to point the winner when the match reaches score an equal score (6 or 8 equal). In this case there's no advantage. The score runs and who scores two points ahead wins. The arbitration is: one arbitrator, assisted by 2 net, 1 line and 1 fault arbitrators. The service choice is made by throwing the racket to the air (heads and tails) - the two different sides of the racket. A court is 23.77 meters long and 10.97 m wide.
