Junk E-Mail or SPAM SPAM! Junk E-Mail! That is the unwanted E-Mail that shows up in your Inbox. What do you do about it??? Should you reply to it? Absolutely Not! Replying to Junk E-Mail only encourages Spam-bots to send more Junk E-Mail. Does MirandaSoft like Junk E-Mail? Absolutely Not! But after reviewing the Junk E-Mail in the Inbox, it is easy to categorize the type of mail sent.
Right now, there are tons of Spam Bot software operating, worldwide. There are about four or five of them that are used most of the time. It is scary to know that Spam Bots can run on *ANY* computer. Most are made from Microsoft Windows, but I have seen a few written in Linux. Most of the active Spam Bots in operation cannot handle long User Names. Some of them are limited to 8-Character usernames, while others are up to 12 or 15 characters in length. Spam Bots can usually send a group message to 100+ users in just a minute or so. Most Spam Bot users hide their IP address with an IP Spoofer of some sort. But most important... Hackers are not usually the culprits of sending Mass Spam! In fact, many teenagers have been caught and a few jobless guys have yet to be caught. In general, the ones that send Porno ads are teenagers, themselves, whom feel they won't get caught. AVOID FORWARDING!!! Forwarding E-Mail from others, is a way that Spam Bots verify a working E-Mail address. Receiving a Forwarded E-Mail from someone else concerning E-Mail verification is a sure sign that your E-Mail address is posted on Mailing Lists. What I seen forwarded, are False Threats, stating that if I don't forward to other people, my E-Mail account will close. That is HOG WASH! See and Example Here! These FAKE messages also appear in Instant Messaging software. Here is what came through Yahoo Messenger. All what these are, just chain letters. Someone along the line is making money, collecting E-Mail addresses from Forwarded E-Mail!!! Worse Yet, some hacker is acquiring IP information and Firewall configurations. That info can be very harmful to the unsuspecting user. Chain Letters are SPAM! Since 1995, I have received Chain Letters in E-Mail. Many stated that if I don't forward the letter to a group of people (say 10), the something will happen to me. Well, since 1995, I never responded to Chain Letters. Responding to Chain Letters only encourages More SPAM! How does an E-Mail address make it onto a E-Mail list? Easy! If you send an E-Mail letter to more than one party, each party can see the E-Mail addresses of the other parties. In retrospect, one needs to capture the E-Mail addresses and submit them to a Bulk E-Mail Server. Some Bulk E-Mail Servers offer money in exchange for E-Mail addresses not currently on the listing. (ie: Receive $10 for every 100 E-Mail addresses submitted.) To avoid increasing the SPAM among your friends, send group E-Mail as BCC (Blind Carbon Copy). When you send group E-Mail as BCC, each party receiving that E-Mail does not see the other party's E-Mail addresses. So far, MSN Hotmail offers the BEST junk E-Mail filter on the internet. Why? For starters, put only the E-Mail addresses of people you write to, into your Address Book or Contact List. Next, in the Options menu, look below the Mail Handling section. Click on "Junk Mail Filter". Select your filter level as Exclusive and inform Hotmail to Delete your Junk Mail. Once you click on "Save Changes," the next time a SpamBot sends a Junk E-Mail, it is automatically deleted. Here at MirandaSoft, I post a Hotmail E-Mail address on the contact page (mirandasoft_intl@hotmail.com). That allows Spam Bots to help me improve my AntiSpam software. (The More Junk Mail, the Better!) While looking in my Inbox listing, I look for *REAL* messages, while Mass Deleting others. I usually use Outlook Express, so I can force view E-Mail in Non-HTML format. Viewing E-Mail in text-form prevents viruses and worms from loading. Once I trust someone, I then add that E-Mail address to my other Hotmail account, that has the Junk Mail Filter as Exclusive. Right now, any junk mail going to m_c_miranda@hotmail.com is deleted, automatically. Wow! What a concept! Also, SpamBots send E-Mail to your Inbox using YOUR E-Mail address, or some variance of it. For instance, E-Mail to m_c_miranda@hotmail.com sent from m_c_miranda@hotmail.com is Deleted from Server! At m_c_miranda@hotmail.com, E-Mail from addresses not in my address book are deleted. My suggestion is have as many E-Mail accounts you can get... For me, I have about 200 E-Mail accounts. Why? I use a different E-Mail address for every signup I do on the net. For instance, if I go to ABC company and they want my E-Mail address to receive ABC Software, while they claim not to give out my E-Mail address, I know who to blame when I receive Junk mail on that E-Mail account. Another suggestion is to purchase a Domain and have the capability of having E-Mail aliases forwarded to private accounts. For instance, if the domain was ihatespammers.com and the E-Mail address is marcos@ihatespammers.com, and then when I receive the FIRST Spam at that address, I quickly go to the Domain site and DELETE "marcos" from the E-Mail alias. As a result, the SpamBot software will continue to send Junk E-Mail a few more times, and then quit, after receiving bounced E-Mail. See an Example HERE! Current software at the FBI can track a Spammer by using that method. Most Spammers don't realize they are already caught until the very end. Why? The Criminal Charges against the individual get very large when there are multiple events. For instance, I have seen a teenager run a Spam Bot about twice a month on his dad's computer, and then, eight months later, he is charges with a Felony Conviction. About 90% of the spammers use someone else's Spam Bot software, and most of those don't realize that Spam Bots identify the programmer of the software. Law Enforcement agencies enjoy playing with Spammers... How? Ever wondered about how a Visa or MasterCard works when a "Tracer" is installed? The person caught accepting the transaction is caught and ends up giving up the person whom set them up. End of Official Report. Visitor #: |
