The Truman Show [Peter Weir]
Starring: Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney
Released: 1998

****
Truman Burbank is the biggest celebrity on earth and he does not
even know it. To him he is an insurance salesman who leads a completely normal life in the town
of Seahaven. He has never visited outside of the utopian society of Seahaven. That is because his
life is being controlled by the creator of The Truman Show, a man named Christof. He has created a world
for Truman to grow soley in the confines of the city. The show is broadcasted around the world twenty-fours a
day, seven days a week. People fall asleep to Truman sleeping. They watch him work. They hold pillows with
his face printed on them.
The Truman Show is an amazing look into a concept humans have never explored as of yet. Could we ever watch a human being grow from infancy to adulthood, experiencing all he is experiencing at that moment he is? Peter Weir does an excellent job molding the movie into a moving experience. Jim Carrey I must say is the perfect man for the job. His comic allure and suprising taste for drama is a much better choice than say a Tom Hanks. I cried. I laughed. Finally, Hollywood got it right.
