Mr. Deeds [Steven Brill]
Starring: Adam Sandler, John Turtorro, Winona Ryder, Steve Buscemi
Released: 2002
*1/2
I will admit. I was an Adam Sandler fan. Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are mindless, childish, and unartistic
films. That's the way I like it sometimes. I didn't even mind him after Waterboy. I forgave him for Little
Nicky. But somewhere it has to stop. In short, Mr. Deeds is a pile of horseshit. Adam Sandler plays Longfellow
Deeds, a pizzeria owner in some town in the middle of nowhere. He inherits $40 billion. Blah, blah, blah. He
is such a nice guy. He meets Pam Dawson (Winona Ryder), and they hit it off except she is a crappy news reporter
and needs this story to keep her alive. Sandler and Ryder have no chemistry. The only thing that keeps the
film slightly interesting is the performance of John Turtorro. He has always been dependable in his roles.
I'm sure the movie will make a lot of money, but it seems Sandler's time is running out.
