Minority Report
Minority Report[Steven Spielberg]
Starring: Tom Cruise, Max Van Sydow, Samantha Morton
Released: 2002
*** out of ****
I will start off by saying that I am quite the fan of Steven Spielberg.
I enjoy his straight as an arrow approach to movies. He rarely has left
the path of pure entertainment (i.e. "Jaws", "Jurassic Park", "Raiders
of the Lost Ark"), with the exception of a few (i.e. "AI"). Then there
comes "Minority Report" with the intersting match up of Spielberg and
Tom Cruise.
You have seen the previews. Cruise heads a futuristic "precrime" unit
that catches criminals before they do their crime. Cruise gets accused
of murder, and becomes part of his own system. I will say flat out I
liked it. Style wise it comes second to none, and special effects are top
notch. I would in fact be lying to say I did not enjoy it, yet I find
the swiss cheese plot to be very unfulfilling at the climax of the movie.
Maybe the most enjoyable part was how the movie made fun of itself at
times.
"Minority Report" is certainly not one of the better films done by Spielberg,
although it was not a disaster. For Tom Cruise, it is probably a lifesaver
after that wretched piece of cinema called "Vanilla Sky". Three out of four
stars. You will like it, but probably not love it.
