An interesting site I recently visited is the Second Baptist Church website I attended a volunteer orientation in the
technology department for this church. I found orientation to be very informative.
Content
Many times visitors who have never been to the church tend to visit the website even before they step foot
onto the campus. The technology pastor (David Drinnon) stressed the importance of making the site useful and and eye
appealing to the user. It communicates with people all over the world to spread the gospel of the church, and
that is a powerful word. In the near future, we hope to design and implement a streaming audio event on the
website so users can listen to sermons online. It is a form of communication that I believe keeps me going throughout
the week. I would love to hear Dr. Ed Young speak other than the Sundays. This opens up a channel of communication
that would definitely bring more people to the cross. Getting involved gives me great satisfaction and I am proud to
serve on this team. I think additional content that could be added to the site may include a link to download bible
verses to your Palm Pilot.
Navigation
The buttons on the top of the screen include Home, Worship, Ministries, About Second, and Church Events. These buttons
stay constant so navigation back to where you wish to go is easily accessible. The toggle buttons to the left of the page
change as the subject of the page changes. This makes the navigation especially easier since the user does not need to
hunt for information. Data needs to be pushed to the user. The attention span of the average user is less than one
quarter of a second so it is imperative that the data is presented quickly and efficiently. The toggle buttons on
the left side accomplishes this.
Media Design
The media design of this site is limited in color and those colors are conservative. The use of few and eye appealing colors
very important. No one likes to look at a site that hurts their eyes. The pictures used on the site are pleasant and communicate
the visitor that church is an enjoyable place to be. Prayer request can be submitted via the site and contacts can be found too.
